Blank Mail Glitch

Sometimes when I open the mail app, it’s really slow to load anything - it’s just a blank screen for around 10 seconds before any text appears.

I can replicate the issue by force closing the app around 3 times and I see one of these screens for around 10 seconds:

Does anyone else have this issue or know why it happens? I’m on the latest iOS and I’ve tried deleting the app/removing the mail accounts multiple times but no luck.

Hm that’s strange. How long has this been going on for? Was it triggered by a recent update? Also which iPhone do you have?

Only recently since I did a restore on my MacBook (I was having battery issues and they suggested restoring the software).

That shouldn’t affect your iOS device though. Have you made any changes to your phone recently whether a software update or change to your mail account or Apple ID?

Sorry I meant that I used my MacBook to restore my iPhone and set it up from scratch - that’s when I’ve noticed this issue and Mail just being slow/buggy in general.

Perhaps try restoring your phone again and see if that resolves the issue?

Thank you, I will be doing that at some point this week.

In the meantime, I just checked on two other iPhones in my house to see if they were experiencing the same issue.

Both an iPhone X (on iOS 14.5.1) and an iPhone 8 Plus (on iOS 14.6) with just one Outlook account, like mine, were having the same issue. It seems like this bug might have been around a while and I’ve only just noticed it recently by force closing my Mail app more than once in quick succession.

Slightly relieved as I was concerned it was something more sinister, even though I know logically that is very very unlikely!

It usually happens if you force close the app (by swiping up in multitasking) 2 or 3 times so I don't know if it's something to do with RAM or the Mail app trying to load data from the server?
