blank screen with circle and line thru it

hi. this is my husbands/coworkers computer.
he rebooted his computer and got a gray screen with a circle and line through it.
i can get into repair disk bit it wont allow me to repair.
help! sorry is this is posted other places just point me in that direction.

Most likely the Hard Drive is toast.

Try using Disk Warrior from either
(1) a boot CD or
(2) an external drive with Mac OS X installed on it.

Sometimes it repairs Disk issues not fixable by the Mac built in Disk Utility program.
