So my iPhone screen stopped working. I was on a phone call, everything was working fine, the call ended, and it took me back to my contacts page. I hit the home button, but nothing happened. When I hit the home button a second time, it took me over to my favorites (like what happens when you normally double click the home button). My next idea was to hit the sleep/wake button. I did that the screen clicked off. When I tried to wake the phone again, the screen was an all white blank screen. The weird thing about it is that if I try to wake the phone up, if sweep my finger across the screen like you do to unlock it, even though its all white and blank, I hear the click of unlocking it. To me, it seams like the phone is still working, just the screen is all white. The only buttons that don't work properly are the sleep/wake button and the home button. Between these two buttons, the only features that don't work are powerdown and reset. Please... someone help me...

Dude, that doesn't sound good. However, I'd try the following things first.

If you can, backup your phone.

Now, I'd try doing a restore in iTunes.

If still no joy, I'd be taking it in for a checkup.

Did you find a solution? I'm having the same problem. Mine will actually work if I don't turn if on for a few minutes, 10 or so, then it fails.

Restore after a backup if possible. When you plug it into iTunes, does it display any of the iPhone's information or does it say "n/a" and "an iPhone has been detected in Recovery Mode blah blah blah....." Have you tried a hard reset by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for about 10 seconds. Also try putting the phone in DFU mode by following these steps.

I am trying the restore today. This is the first time I have restored the phone. Last night, it was almost always going to the white screen when I hit the wake key but this morning, it seems to be doing fine. It still does go to the white screen a split second before going to the unlock screen.

I've done the hard reset many times and no good. After the hard reset, it won't show the white screen until I hit the wake key to turn it off and then back on.

FYI, I had a cracked glass and ended up replacing the glass and LCD. This started happening after the replacement so I'm wondering if it isn't a bad LCD.

Here's hoping the restore does the trick.

Did you buy the glass and screen from a replacement parts store that sold them specifically for the iPhone? If so, where? I'm looking to repair my old iPhone and sell it. And did you repair it yourself or did Apple? It could be a bad replacement, how long after the fix did thi start happening? I would contact the place you bought the replacement from if the restore doesn't fix anything.

Please let us know how the restore went.

Ok, the restore didn't fix the problem.

I purchased the glass from Missionrepair.com and the LCD from Yallstore.com. I would have got the LCD from Mission Repair but they don't sell it. The white screen started happening days after the fix. At first, the white screen just came up after hitting the wake key and then went away within a second. I could live with that. Now it stays. I can still swipe the unlock and can hear the phone unlock but I can't see anything.

I did the fix myself. There are plenty of sites with info and even videos about how to fix these items. I can open, remove the glass and lcd and put it back together pretty quick now. The main problems I had were:
1) Separating the LCD from the glass. I broke the original. That is why I had to order another
2) Removing the glass from its surrounding. It is sort-of glued on. The instructions talk about using a heat gun to soften the glue. I didn't do that but that is probably the way to go.

If you don't want to DIY, then there are plenty of places that will do the fix. I should have done that but I didn't want to be without my phone for even a day or two.

Thanks for the links!

I think the next step would be to contact Yallstore.com and see if they have anything to say. You could also contact MissionRepair.com. It seems like they would know more about the repair and problems that may occur.

David

I've done both. I haven't heard back from Yallstore, but MissionRepair came back. They are nice guys to work with. He suggested the restore and also that the LCD was probably bad. I'm still waiting on Yallstore but I'm not holding my breath for those guys.

I've found that if I connect it to power, in the car or off the computer, it doesn't go into the white screen. I goes right into the unlock. Weird.

Keith

Possibly the best case scenario, Y'all Store sends you a new LCD and you replace it and everything works fine. I assume that is what will happen but skeptical about the white screen going away. Worst case scenario, you have to buy a new LCD and that still doesn't fix the problem. You have already spent close to the new cost of a iPhone so keep that in mind before spending too much more.

I don't find it very weird that it doesn't go to the white screen when connected because when you connect to a charging device the phone has to follow a different protocol to wake the screen when connected to a charging device then when a button is pressed.

David

I have no idea what it would cost to go back to the Apple store and get a new iPhone. I got it under a replacement contract with AT&T. Do they give you a discount if you bring in a broken one?

Keith

Well, I signed up for the 2 year contract when I got the original phone in Nov. And I got the 16GB.

I got an email from the LCD people telling me to reseat the connector, which I've done. At least they are responding.
