I clean my laptop display fairly regularly. But since I've gotten it, I've had two blemishes appear that cannot be cleaned:

It is very difficult to show these in a camera image. I have cleaned the screen many times, this spot cannot be removed. Looking at it closely it appears to be beneath the glass, in the panel itself, not on the glass. Another similar spot has now appeared toward the top of the screen.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is this pixel death or something else?

Okay, uploaded to imgur and linked:

This was taken with the 13 Pro macro mode. What do you think it is?

Here's without macro:

On my last several MBPs including my 16' MBP - I've found that when I get something on my screen, wiping it causes it to smear. I have to use a wet cloth to wipe down the area, then very gently, with the dry portion of the t-shirt or cloth, clean the area to get rid of the "smear".

Edit: You posted the pic while I typed this - the smears in my post look nothing like what you posted. That almost looks like it's under the screen?

Thanks. I might very well take it in considering this thing cost me almost 4 grand. Never noticed this before on a previous MBP, so I wonder if it's to do with mini-LED specifically. ?

Oh Jesus, that reminds me of the old TFT screens I had that eventually insects decided to choose for their eternal resting place.

Not that I think it’s an insect in this case, mind you.
I think it’s potentially some dust, too.
But as was mentioned before, take it to an Apple Store. I would think they’d repair/replace it since it’s less than a year old.

Impossible to tell from a picture. If it’s a defect, we’ll that’s clearly a warranty item. I had a 2014 MBP after cleaning (be careful of what cleaners and excessive rubbing, the anti glare coatings can come off), the screen developed blemishes that worsened over time. My 2020 M1 I decided to use a screen protector, really happy with it - easier to clean and not susceptible to wearing out

Not Joking, but I too have it now, on my Mac, from where I am typing now. I guess it's a dead pixel mostly

No, It happens on the Retina MacBook Air Too
But I don't know about the price of it's repair, Upon that, I don't have Apple Care, so repair will be quite expensive

Yup, my same line of thought. Although to be fair, they aren't dead... yet.

Maybe. I’m no expert but my understanding is that stuck pixels (color) may be fixable but dead (black) ones are not. Not 100% fact but personally I’ve never seen grey patches of pixels recover. This panel needs taking to Apple asap and nothing less than a replacement accepted. In my opinion anyways.

I have also seen Apple laptop panels where one or more of those tiny little black midges have their way inside and then died, but the unit should technically be fully sealed so that would also be a warranty repair.

When they are 100% black, they are dead. But those look like they are turning on a bit still.
