Hi guys,

I just opened up my new 2021 MBP 16" and noticed some very faint blemishes on the top. Has anyone else seen this? Everything else is absolutely fine.

I spoke with the retailer who has offered an exchange or 10% discount. The blemishes aren't too bad - you really have to look for them, so am thinking 10% ain't too bad.

Thank guys. I was thinking the same. A little gutted thr the mac. Isn't going to be absolutely perfect and shocked at Apple's QC but £200 off is £200 to go else where - like my bills 🤣

10% off is a good deal, my guess is a judicious use of metal polish will remove the stain and having things looking good as new. At least thats what works with me. I find in particular apolar solvents leave a stain. someone was obviously drinking on the job! (etoh can stain aluminum).

re your comment on QC, they see hundreds (thousands?) a day, all they can really look for is very obvious things...you said you had to look hard for the blemishes. There is no QC analyst being paid low wages in a sweat shop thats going to be as meticulous and critical as a Mac Rumors reader!

Thanks mate. What brand do you use?

A very valid and fair comment. So much so that it's worrying. For once I didn't think about the workers who are *used* to undertake this kind of work.

Do.i feel guilty! Absolutely. Will I do.something about It! Most definitely.

What is a blemish on a bit of metal compared to the horrific and sadder bigger situation!

I use this.. https://www.amazon.com/Cloth-Non-Sc...-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1

there are similar things that absorb grease without scratching from metal surfaces.

and no, sorry, wasn't trying to make you feel guilty regarding QC work environment (thankless job)... I tend to be more of a realist on such matters, not looking for perfection (not saying you do!), and given the various complexities think Apple's QC is above industry norm (work in the field). I do enjoy a bargain and think you got one!

Thanks for the linky.

And no need to apologise dude. I didn't take it the wrong way at all. I just got myself into thinking about poorly paid staff across the board. I try my best to be as ethical as I can (I'm one of those annoying tree hugging, hemp wearing, animal loving, vegetarian types 😂

Did you say you work.in the QC field?

I must look into Apple's recent track record on treatment of staff at lower levels.

It will end up with some blemishes anyway, doesn’t matter how much you baby the MacBook. €200 discount is really nice!

Last year I bought a new fridge and expensive cabinet for the tv corner.

Small dent in the door of the fridge €100 cashback
Small dent in a steel leg on the side of the tv cabinet €250 discount.

😊

Wow! You've had some results there.

This MacBook has been a bit of a deal for me. With this discount, it's cost me £1,470.How much do they come in at over the pond for a 16" 1tb Pro?

€2554 for 1 tb 16 gb €3400 for 1 tb 32 gb

I said it like it’s nothing, but I can be extremely annoyed by imperfections on my MacBook 😂
Furniture as well, but hey a discount makes accepting small things a lot easier
