Blipr is a sound+messaging app for iPhone that lets you "blip" friends using push notifications. We're making it free for a very brief period of time. Tell all of your friends about it! :)

You'll probably need a friend to send blips to so you might want to ask another friend to download blipr and exchange IDs (you can just use the share tab to make it easy). :)

Great idea! And very fun original app! But I think one major flaw is this "ID" nonsense. Why do we have a username if we have to give people a random sting of characters? Just entering their unique username should be enough to add them to my friends list. Just my though. I hope this changes in the future.

Not a bad app, but useless for iming.

Devs need to add a conversation window ala sms app.

Otherwise, its only good for sending a funny one liner with a sound, if that's what you want to do, then this app is a must. But totally useless for back and forth conversation.

Thank you for the heads up on this app.

*****Hey devs, how do i delete the history?*****

It's a nickname so people can have duplicate names. Also, we saw that people liked sharing codes (hence an entire forum at MR dedicated to it). The other cool thing is that it lets people use EMOJI in their nickname. For example, mine has a little frog in it.

Edit: It would probably be tough to change this now but we might be able to do something else...we'll see.

We may add conversations in a future update. We'll see. We have a lot going on and have invested a lot of time and money into this app. We're giving it away for a little bit. History is the last 50 incoming/outgoing blips. There's no deleting. The idea is to allow you to play back blips you've received.

You got it 100% right when you mentioned the sound messaging -- that's the whole point of the app. We'll see how paid users respond in the future and might adjust the app accordingly. :)

It's about frikkin time!

For what?

This is one of the cleanest interface apps I've seen in a long time, and it does what it says. i don't get how people can complain.

Thank you for your response.
Wish you guys much success with your app, it is very clean and easy to use.

.....for a free run to get my friends involved.....or at least try

Awesome, hope they all get a chance to grab it! :)

Amro, have you ever thought of developing an iPhone-to-iPhone messaging app? Your team's design skills are what many other developers are lacking. :)

We've thought about it. ;) This has been our most expensive initial app launch to date (lots of design work, new dedicated server, advertising, etc) so we'll have to wait a little bit to recoup before we can afford to do another big launch. Plus, we want to get an update or two out for this. :)

Do you think the App Store community would want another app? I think a good start might be for us to add conversations as suggested by someone above instead of introducing another messaging app. That way Blipr could serve both purposes. :)

I think there are too many push IM clients, and unfortunately no one app has come through to dominate the category, which is needed. I think your app is fantastic and can only become better if you introduce a threaded message tab to your app.

You also should provde badge updates to the app, and provide a 'sleep period', where the user can designate a time not to receive sound notifications (I don't want burp sounds at 4am because my mates are out drinking).

Also, an option to clear history would be fantastic, some of us have prying girlfriends that don't appreciate male wit! Also, it's a quibble, but can you change the status bar to black, it seems to be more in keeping with the rest of the design.

LOL you guys crack me up. :D

Here's what we've got coming (in the app description on the App Store as well):

1.1 - adds a store (xmas and sci fi sound packs to come first) - under review
1.2 - replacing history with conversations, black status bar - in testing, will be ready by the time 1.1 is approved
1.3 - we are considering history deletion for this build depending on blipr adoption and user requests (so your girlfriends don't get too angry!). it's a bit tricky because of how we store blips on the server. (no promises yet but we're working out the details and will need to do load testing afterward to make sure we can handle it.)

We have to keep the Blipr server as performant as possible. Some of these things impact that so we have to weigh what we change pretty heavily as it could greatly affect future service stability. We initially just intended for Blipr to be a fun way to send sounds. So far so good. :)

Edit: BTW, any ideas for sound packs to add?
