If you want to block connecting from MSN altogether, why do you open the application in the first place?DarkNetworks said:no i wanna block from connecting to msn...i wanna configure my router to do so...

The app MSN uses port 1863. Unless the OP is talking about the website, this won't work. If the OP is talking about a website, the firewall should just be able to black certain domains. Why not just not go to msn.com then?belvdr said:Well, I've looked and I think MSN will use port 80 if needed, so it may get hard to block it. One approach is to create a DNS server on your network, have it host the msn.com domain, and point it to 127.0.0.1.

MSN Messenger connects to 1863.belvdr said:Why not? What hosts does MSN Messenger connect to?

I don't use it. I think its something like messenger.hotmail.com.belvdr said:To what hosts? It doesn't just connect to anything on port 1863.

PS. Bet accepted.
C:\>nslookup 207.46.0.100
Name: baym2-cs80.messenger.hotmail.com
Address: 207.46.0.100
I still think it would be easier to just remove the app.belvdr said:Looks like I lost the bet.. You win bragging rights...
Code:C:\>nslookup 207.46.0.100 Name: baym2-cs80.messenger.hotmail.com Address: 207.46.0.100
I will now amend my suggestion to hosting hotmail.com.

belvdr said:Well, the OP said he/she wanted to block at the router, so I assume he/she wants to block it no matter who is on the network, not necessarily who is on the Mac.

grapes911 said:So not that it is any of my business, but why do you want to do this?
Ah....I'm guess he/she uses a different computer. Hope you get it to work.DarkNetworks said:i wanna stop a kid in my house from using it the whole day...
