Blogger, domain name and email help

Hi All,

I have a little confusion I am trying to clear up hopefully with your help.

I am setting up a simple blog for a very computer illiterate friend. They want it simple and I don't want calls all of the time asking for help so I decided on Blogger. I got her a domain name (herdomain.com) that I plan to use for it. She also wants an email relating to her domain ie:info@herdomain.com that she will use.

Getting the personal domain to work with Blogger is easy but how do I set her up with an email.

I have a couple of websites of my own that i built so I am somewhat knowledgable but by no means an expert.

I was going to set her up with a hosting package for the domain and set up a blog on it for her and then email is simple. But that is a little much for her.

Do i point the domain to blogger and then get a simple mail package from the people I bought the domain name from?

I feel I am missing something simple. Are there any other options?

I went with Dream Host and Wordpress. In the Dream Host User Panel (Or who ever you host your domainname with [provided Email is part of the package] is easy to set-up, then you just take the POP3 setting and put it in Mail (or Outlook) like any normal email and your up and running.

So Email has nothing to do with the blog (unless you put it in as a contact page or user setting).

If you have a domain I sincerely recommend registering with Google Apps
here.
You can set up their mail (@yourdomain.com) and get the benefit of the GMail web interface. Not to mention it's totally free.

I checked Google Apps and it looked promising but you can't use the same domain for them and for Blogger. I wonder if I could redirect mail only to Google Apps and the rest to Blogger through cname entries?

I thought of hosting and wordpress but she thought it too advanced for her. She liked the idea of Blogger.

So I am back to square 1.

So I am back to square 1.

I know you already said it was too complicated with hosting but does she realize that she doesn't own the blogger website? Google can take it down whenever they feel like it and if the website one day becomes profitable, she could be out a couple grands.

Once installed and working, using WP is IMO simpler than using blogger.

If it's for the cost, I understand but don't forget that the owner of the blog is google, not her.

If Blogger closed or changed, she could move her domain elsewhere or pay the fee (if they went that way).

I agree with you that the hosting angle and WP would probably be best but I don't want to have numerous calls from her to fix or change things.

As I've never used WP, would it be easy for her to post and add images on her own?
