If you're a smart consumer that feel you shouldn't have to spend a fortune to get a high quality phone or coming from iOS and want to experiment with Android without spending a lot of money, do yourself a favor and pick up a few while they're on sale for $49.

This phone will blow you away with its build quality that rivals iPhones with elements of iPhone X, beautiful design with smaller bezels that should've been the basemark for iPhone 8 Plus, thin as flagship iPhones at 0.33mm but with huge 4000mAh battery with out of this world 14h screen-on time and 1d 20h usage, excellent IPS LCD that looks more 1080p than 720p, smooth consistent performance with extreme gaming, clear loud speaker sound, FM radio useful for emergency broadcasts, 3.5mm audio jack, Android Nougat with native split screen multitasking, micro SD card slot, notification LED, etc. Only cons are no gimmicks, no screen notch and they skimped on 16GB storage like Apple but you can make up for it with a $30 128GB Samsung EVO+ micro SD card.

This is an AT&T prepaid phone but it supposedly works with AT&T post paid and AT&T MVNOs H2O, Cricket, Freedompop (LTE Sim), Airvoice, Red Pocket(AT&T), Straight Talk(AT&T). You can also use it on WIFI like I am.

Pending info on getting paid SIM unlock code for other non-AT&T carriers. Bootloader unlock is available through Huawei so potential for custom ROMs down the road although stock ROM is perfectly fine.

Will it get recognized by a PC or does it need an iTunes-like program called HiSuite?

You have/had the 1st gen XT I think if I remember correctly which you raved about back when as king of budget phones, is this XT2 that much better?

I would get it if it doesn't require using HiSuite to transfer media. The young Indian guy trying to sell me a fairly abused HTC One M9 told me he had the Honor 5X and it needed HiSuite. The OnePlus 3T didn't need a program to handle media files. That's why I have no intention to go back to Xiaomi as it also needs Mi Suite. I despise iTunes-like proprietary software.

Haven't used wire in so long since I normally use WIFI and either Solid Explorer (SMB) or faster Total Commander with WebDAV plug-in to move files to/from PC. Just for you I plugged in USB wire to my Windows 10 PC and the phone gave me these four options:

- charge only
- MTP where I can see the phone's internal and SD card storage without installing any software and also another drive letter to install HiSuite
- PTP limited to DCIM and Pictures folders
- MIDI input

So, to answer your question. No, HiSuite is not needed at least on this device.
