I have to say, I took photos of pages of a book the other day. I started googling whether there is a way to do text recognition and the answer was to just use Spotlight. So I tried it and it exceeded all my expectations. Simple to use, fast, easy to access. Just wow. Totally blown away. I can't believe this isn't advertised as a feature more often. Every OS should have it.

And pictorial content of images.

iPhone and iPad do it too.

But macOS Spotlight is dilatory in getting round to doing the indexing. Sonoma and Ventura 13.5+ seem to take up to a week to index image content for new or moved images.

Yer, I found out about it through my iPad. It indexed really quickly for me. Well, I started trying to do text recognition the following day after taking the photos. It was done by then. + the iPad was switched off for most of that day. So it seemed almost instantaneous.
