Blu-Ray Drives

Hey guys. I just started to build my movie library again. And this time, I'm obviously going for BluRay DVDs.
But of course, all of you know, that the new iMacs don't come with a BluRay drive.
Anyway, I really want to take advantage of this awesome screen.

Does anyone know any cheap BluRay drives that I can use with this iMac, and how would I do it?

AFAIK, there is still no Blu-ray playback in OS X. However, I would suspect you could find one of many drives to use under Windows in BootCamp

Get one that can write to DVDs (i.e., Blu-ray ROM/DVD-RW) and put it in an external USB2 or Firewire enclosure, then install Make MKV and VLC. After that, you can play your Blu-ray discs on your Mac using instructions found here.

Looked great! Saw a big of slight pixelation but that was because we were close, once u move away looks great!

Those OS X instructions are crazy. It's way easier to use bootcamp and windows with any bluray capable software.

I just carry a slim bluray drive, my mini displayport to hdmi adapter and the hdmi cable so I can connect to HDTV on the road. I've come to accept I must use windows for this and my games.

It will get easier. The Plex plugin will eventually call Make MKV and parse the disc so that you don't have to go through these hoops. But it requires interaction between the Make MKV devs and the Plex devs, which seems to be very good ATM.

It's way easier to use bootcamp and windows with any bluray capable software.

That, of course, requires a Windows install, which many do not want. The goal is to have a Mac solution.

Unfortunately I dont think the seller has any left, but I just got this drive off of ebay 2 weeks ago and Im very pleased with it...

I rip the Bluray with MakeMKV, then you can watch the MKV in PLEX or encode it with Handbrake and bring it to the PS3 or other device.

True. Apple providing BR support in the systems that can take 12.7mm drives or the MP would be ideal, however, since all the games my kids an grandkids play are Windows only so I don't mind Bootcamp.

I suppose an alternative solution is fine so long as it's a lot easier than it is now.
