Hi,

I've finished ripping my DVD's to AppleTV.

Is it possible to do Blu-Ray or HD-DVD's to AppleTV?

If not, where are you guys getting HD films from?

Thanks

Mark

Conversions

As one who ( gladly ) invested in HD-DVD movies due to the superior features, I now am in a similar boat.

What I have looked into was converting HD-DVD disks to BluRay discs.

While there are solutions out there, they all seem to be Windows Centric, mostly for the decrypting that needs to happen. One step in the process requires ripping the movie to a independent file.

I would imagine that at this point, you can then convert the ripped movie file to H.264 for AppleTV.

Again, all of these guides are for windows, but if you google "convert HD-DVD to BluRay" you should find the links on several web sites.

Max.

It is possible to do this. I have ripped a number of HD-DVDs to h.264 for streaming to the PS3. The procedure for you will be exactly the same except the re-encoding will be for 720p (I'm doing 1080p).

It is a lengthy process and requires a PC with a number of video programs. I wrote a little tutorial on here a whlie back for doing an HD-DVD. The tutorial was written for a VC-1 encoded movie (90% of HD-DVD). A h.264 movie is considerably easier and I can tell you how to do that if you want. Blu-ray can be ripped in a similar manner.

I ended up not using SUPER for the encoding. I used MeGUI instead. If you decide to go ahead with it I can tell you how to use that.

I'm guessing you'll probably decide not to attempt it after reading how complicated it is.
