I'm curious if anyone out there has one of the LG UH12LS28 internal blu ray drives. I bought one from OWC (for the Mac Pro).

I installed it and everything seemed fine. My MP sees it, tray opens and closes and it plays DVD's. But when I try to burn something to a blank blu ray disc (tried both Memorex and Sony) I keep getting a message that tells me to insert a "blank" disc! I tried doing a burn in Toast 10 (w/ blu ray plug in) and after inserting the "blank" blu ray disc I get the same message. Same thing when I tried to burn a photo in iPhoto. Says to insert a "blank" disc and rejects the blu ray one...

I'm starting to think my MP doesn't see it as a BLU RAY drive, only a DVD one because it's not accepting blank blu rays! I'm waiting to hear back from OWC. LG doesn't even have it listed on their site but I sent them an email asking if they have any updates for this drive - which I believe came out only last year. Just in case...

If it helps to know this, I replaced the stock Superdrive with this one and then installed the Superdrive in the second bay as a back up. My MP is a 1,1 2.66GHz (dual core) with 10 GB of RAM and over 2TB of storage and I'm running OSX 10.6.8. From what I could see on the OWC page, this drive is perfectly compatible with my MP. Am I missing something here??

Sure could use some help in figuring out why I can't seem to use a blank blu ray disc to burn my photos and videos!

Check your System Preference / CD's & DVD's setting for Blurays etc.
Can you burn a standard DVD?
Check for Updates for Toast and the plugin?

I use a LG WH10LS30 in MP works great, with Toast 10.

Do you have an older MP like mine? I can burn a DVD. I have the plug in from Toast and I had already downloaded updates for Toast 10 after installing it. I know the plug in works because before I got it I couldn't even select blu ray in Toast without getting a pop up about getting the plug in. Now I don't see that and it lets me proceed, but then... the blu ray disc is rejected so I can't do a burn when it's time to install the disc.

I did go to System Preferences to confirm the drive was active. It shows up but I notice under the drive's list of information, I see formats listed like DVD-R, DVD-RW, etc. but I don't see BD or BD DL or the like anywhere. What Mac settings are there for enabling blu ray? What should I be looking for or what do I need to do to make the Mac accept blank blu's in this drive? Is there like some "enable blu ray" section or something? I'm pretty new at this...

Thanks a lot for your help!

Using a 2010 with OS 10.6.8 here so not the same set up...

In System Preference -- see the attached

I don't even think mine has that option listed - "When you insert a blank blu ray disc..." But I'll look again when I get home tonight. If it doesn't, I'm sure that speaks to the source of my problem...

Holy crap!! Wow... well, that explains it!

I just requested a return from OWC customer service. Hopefully they will do it considering I already installed the drive and Lightning Scribe software. But I told them I want to buy the WH10LS30 from them now instead.

(whew) Thanks a lot for pointing this out man... really appreciate it.
