i want a macbook, but I want it to play blu ray movies when they become more popular. when do you think apple will start including playback in consumer models (not necessarily burning, just playback)?

would consumer macs even be able to handle full length hd movies?

thanks

They might start including them once drives are available! Almost certainly these drives will appear in the Pro machines first and then filter down to the consumer machines 6 months or so later.

I'm not sure what your worry is regarding length of movies. It's no more difficult to playback 3 hours of HD than it is to play 1 minute.

When it becomes more popular? You mean IF it becomes popular. Dont expect to see blu-ray or hd-dvd in your macbook until the war has been won and prices begin to fall significantly. a blu-ray player oem drive uses way toooooo much power for a laptop at the moment and costs the earth, let alone a recordable drive.....

Maybe towards the end of 2007..... If there's no clear winner and both formats fall flat on there ass - a major possibility, then dont ever expect to see it.....

yeah. when the drives are available i was wondering apple may start allowing playback.

maybe i should have taken out "full length". will they be able to play hd movies, given some downloaded now seem to stutter a bit on lower end macs from what i've heard.

but also, on my ibook it is much more difficult to play a 3 hour movie than a 1 minute movie, it beach balls to hell.

yeah, i should have put either/or in my question. but we all know blu ray will win.
