Blu Ray playback - what can I do?

So I was under the impression that my iMac was able to play Blu-Ray discs.
Needless to say I forgot I read the statement by Jobs about Blu-Ray, but I bought a movie anyway since I got a good deal on amazon.

Now I did some research and I see a system where a guy RIPS the blu ray disc in Windows (bootcamp) and then plays it in OS X.

Problem is: I try to rip it with Any DVD on Windows, but it keeps ejecting on me. So I'm not sure if its an issue with registering the software (I have an active trial)
or if its just IMPOSSIBLE to do without an external Blu Ray player.

I'm sure someone here has figured out a solution of sorts.
Looking for some answers - help is appreciated.

The Mac SuperDrive is a DVD drive. It's impossible without an external Blu-Ray drive.

Ok, se lets say I go get a Blu Ray player for around $100.

What do I need to connect it?

Mini-Display to HDMI? Isn't that something I must order online? Apple doesn't make these do they? (can't find it)

Ripping is best done with MakeMKV for OS X. Playback is with VLC, MPlayer OS X Extended, Plex (my favorite) or XBMC.

You can play Blu-ray discs under OS X if you have MakeMKV and use its streaming server with VLC. You won't get the menus, just the titles (which are enigmatic).

You could always purchase a sata blu ray drive and put it in an enclosure. Do that and use MakeMKV to get it onto your computer. It will take around 40 minutes to do that then use VLC, Plex or Boxee to play it. Blu rays are very big file sizes so unless you have a ton of storage don't plan on importing every blu ray you see.

I just need to get this clear before I invest in any hardware.

superdrive is cd and dvd only. there's no native blu ray capable superdrive.

No, you need a Blu-ray computer drive, not a Blu-ray Disc set-top player. I have a 5.25" LG HD-DVD/Blu-ray burner/DVD burner/CD burner in a BYTECC external FW400/USB2 enclosure.

You cannot rip or even connect a Blu-ray Disc player to a computer. You need a stand-alone Blu-ray drive in an enclosure, such as these:
