Anyone know of Blu-Ray players (software) for Windows? I have a friend with a Windows notebook. He tried using VLC and WMP both with choppy video and out of sync audio. Any ideas? He says the file format is .mkv or something.

If he's running Vista and he hasn't done so already, he can try installing Service Pack 2 for Vista. It's still in Beta. A simple Google Search will reveal a link. That may help some.

Other than that, the only thing I know of that can play Blue Ray disks is PowerDVD, but from what I've read, it's buggy though and won't play all movies.

Unfortunately, it seems that Blue Ray players on computers right now aren't a good investment, due to the lack of support from anyone.

Matroska video - popular for high def rips, so no BluRay

Yes, notebook not fast enough. He should watch out if his GFX Card will do HD Video decoding acceleration. And if he can find a programm that supports hardware acceleration and .mkv files. Maybe Total Media Extreme or Power DVD.
