Behind you!
Hi all. I was wondering whether it mattered when ripping Blu-Rays which kind of Blu-Ray optical drive you have? I'm thinking of getting a cheapish one, and I was wondering whether the specification or brand/model particularly matters. Is any Blu-Ray ROM drive currently available fine? I'll probably be ripping in Windows, but it'd be nice if I could rip on the Mac too.

Thanks!

currently if you wish to use the mac program makemkv to rip BR discs, you MUST have a drive that has write priveledges for either CD/DVD or BD. e.g. it must be a cd/dvd/bd BURNER!

if you want to use boot camp + program then any old ROM drive will be fine :)

I have a LG GCC-H20L Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive. They seem to be hard to find now, but worth look at just for the ability to rip all those nice cheap HD-DVD's that nobody wants anymore:) It works fine under Windows, not sure about Mac.

If you already have a PS3, that's the cheapest. I've been using it with my iMac for a while now. Search here for "PS3 guide" and it should come up.
