What I don't understand is itunes doesnt even have dvd support. Well I have never played a dvd in itunes, why would we expect a blu-ray disk to play in itunes. It's not that I don't like the idea, it just doesn't mesh with what I see Apple do in the past. but that again, apple does surprise me once in a while.

I suspect it'll be for DRM reasons, it it's even true. Blu-ray is much more intensive on parsing the OS for compliance.

Caveman can mini display support all the same audio formats as HDMI (I assume it can)?

It has the bandwidth, but whether or not it can passthrough True-HD or DTS-HD is not entirely clear.
