Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro and sometimes run VMWare Fusion / XP so that I can sync some older Nokia phones I have (that only run on PC Suite).

However, my older phones don't utilize cables...you can only sync with Bluetooth or IR.
I opened up the Control Panel and looked for a "Bluetooth Devices" icon, but couldn't find one.
Then I opened up the Nokia "PC Suite" and Connectivity window and it gave me the option of clicking (ie: selecting to turn ON) Bluetooth and IR, but when I did, it said that this function was not available.

What am I missing?
My MBP obviously has all the Bluetooth and IR whistles, but when running VMWare Fusion / XP, the computer seems to disavow any knowledge that these options/functionalities are installed and working on the Mac side.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Justin

Make sure you enable your device (USB, IR, Bluetooth, or whatever) under Fusion. Some hardware is only available to OSX or your virtual machine, but not both, depending on how you enable it.

The icons are in the bottom of your Fusion window, or you can enable it from the Fusion menu if you're in full screen mode.

Getting VMWare Fusion to recognize Bluetooth and IR drivers

Experiencing same problem. Please advise if any solution offered. Thanks.

Found a solution at http://blog.gruby.com, but instead of giving the whole URL, I'll retype the steps involved and add to them (since some of the ones that were originally explained weren't quite as clear to me, so I'll make things even more detailed):

  1. While the Win XP VM is running, insert the Mac OS X Install Disc.
  2. Close the Install Assistant window when it offers to Remote Install Mac OS X/DVD or CD Sharing.
  3. Open "My Computer", Right click the CD drive and select "Open" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Go to the "Boot Camp" folder and run "Setup".
  5. Click "Next/Yes" when the installer offers to install Windows Software Updater. It won't ask you, but it will also install the Boot Camp drivers for Bluetooth and iSight, among other things. Don't worry, I know you are looking to run VMWare Fusion and not Boot Camp, you're just using the Installer CD for Boot Camp to load the drivers so that Win XP VM will realize that it has the drivers and the firmware for Bluetooth and IR.
  6. Follow any other instructions from the computer from this point forward.
  7. Reboot.
  8. If Windows hangs on shutdown, just stop and restart the VM from VMWare Fusion.

Hope this helps; it did for me.

Best regards,

Justin
