Hi all,

This has been happening to me for literally years, so I'm wondering if anyone else gets it. I also want to try and figure out if getting a CarPlay unit will make it go away...

So, every time I get in my Toyota Corolla with stock radio, the bluetooth auto-connects and audio starts playing... BUT it's always muted.

The only way to unmute it is by adjusting the volume on the phone, or by skipping audio tracks.

Just me?

The Bluetooth connecting and audio starts playing is typical. Some people find this annoying so they sell a blank song (for $1 naturally) so that you have a moment to choose a song. You can make your own or go for 4' 33" for the extra flair. So perhaps your car is trying to be helpful. Maybe look into the manual and see if this is mentioned in the stereo section.

Is it always playing the first song in a playlist or the list of all songs? Then your car is likely doing the muting.

Although it is likely to be the car anyway as Bluetooth connects automatically but doesn't start playing by design (based on the headphones and audio adapters I have used). So the Bluetooth in the car sends a play command right away for "convenience" and if I was to bet I would say that the car mutes to be less annoying.

if you want to just fix the muted playback and you have a 3.5 mm aux input you can get a Bluetooth adapter. It will behave like headphones so it will auto connect but wait for you to press play. But you might as well tap the volume. CarPlay to get around tapping the volume seems like an unnecessary workaround unless it gives you something else.

So the theory is that the head unit is sending a both a play command and a mute command to the phone?

How does that possibly not annoy the $%#% out of people?

I will look on the Toyota forums to see if there is any support for this theory...
