I haven't read anywhere that the iPhone will do voice dialing through bluetooth. Anyone have any idea? This would also be needed to sync bluetooth for cars and such. I can't imaging driving and having to scroll through a list of names.
Anyone?

Yeah, this really seems the weirdest omission from the iPhone.

Still, it has (sort of) a speakerphone, it has a wired headset, it supports Bluetooth headsets... but you'd still have to mess around with the screen while driving or whatever to place a call, and to receive a call you'd have to forget about knowing who is calling when you answer.

I bet this is one of those features that Apple has coming down the pipeline shortly. :)

Agreed. Like everyone else said, I'm not sure what they were thinking when they decided for no voice dialing, but a bluetooth headset... It kind of defeats the purpose (not fully, but it takes away some of the point of it)

It seems to me though that, if there's a strong demand for Voice dialing after the iPhone launches, that this would be easy to implement in software. I mean, they already have voice recognition technologies in OS X. This might be one of the features we see added in a subsequent update, perhaps by the end of the year.

Well, assuming that the iPhone's CPU is able to handle it. I'm not sure of the engineering requirements for voice recognition in terms of hardware power.

Can't be that much, my "lowly" V3 can do it :p

Yeah, I was about to say, my RAZR could do it, so... then again, the only time I ever used it was for novelty. I guess if I was driving and needed to call someone it'd be handy, but as it is I usually don't call anyone while on the road, just take incoming calls. And for that, the Bluetooth headset will be just fine.

Voice dialing ? Seriously, how many people _really_ use the feature. I can't tell you how many phones I have had that had the feature. I used it maybe 2 times per phone.

Its a gimmick feature

Gotta say I've NEVER used the voice dialing features my phone has... But my car has voice dialing and then sends the number to the phone to dial... Hopefully this will still work with the iPhone.

Guys, so you understand, voice dialing is super simple and I'm sure we'll see it very soon after launch. I can almost guarantee it will be one of the first thing to come down the software update pipeline.

Once you have an iPhone, who else will checking software update 2-3 times per day? :D

I use it pretty much everyday when I'm driving. I tend to make or get business calls while on the road, and voice dial is a life saver (literally). It's not really safe to pick up your phone and start dialing away while in traffic, and it's even more of a hassle to pull off somewhere, park, dial, then get back on the road, esp. in rush hour traffic. We already have to deal with the crappy ATT network if we buy one, but not having features that are common on other phones is bad, as much as I want one.
