After pairing an iPhone 12 ProMax and an iPhone 7 Plus to my Mac Studio, the devices instantly disconnect. On the iPhone, tapping the Mac Studio in the bluetooth devices list, I am presented with a "Connection Unsuccessful Mac Studio is not supported - Forget Device" dialog box.

Resetting not an option - While it appears that SHIFT-OPTION clicking on the bluetooth icon in the top menu bar used to present a button to reset the bluetooth on a mac, it's not present on my Mac Studio. Bluetooth settings that could be deleted by removing the com.apple.bluetooth.plist seems to no longer be an option as this file does not exist.

Creating a separate user account has the same issues. Any thoughts?

Apparently this issue must be a one-off and could warrant a call to apple support. Uggh...

Once the Sonnet Breakout Box arrives for my Highpoint 7101a 4x NVMe PCIe express card, I'll install a fresh copy of Monterey to see if it's an OS issue.

Why do you need to pair your iPhones to your Studio via Bluetooth? What functionality does this provide?

Just curious.
THANKS FOR ASKING: I have a 2 hour livestream on YouTube 5 days a week and at times important people call into my show from my personal phone to be a part of the broadcast.

When that happens, I use my iPhone to transfer the call via Bluetooth/Wifi to my Mac where I can seamlessly bridge the call into my production with me as the host, on a 1080P/60FPS camera with a decent mic, mixed with a live panel, brought in through a web based with Peer-to-Peer streaming platform that's mixed-LIVE via OBS.

So from my perspective, having a bluetooth / wifi/ handoff of my iPhone to my mac is essential for my production and not just for talking to friends and family.

Let's just say, unlike most in this forum, I bought a mac mac studio for live video production as a primary need. While the speed in pre-recorded video production helps, the platform excels in an area that Apple has given little to to no support for.

SERIOUSLY... Where is the iLife application for live streaming apple? It seems like since Steve died, the innovation in creative Apple tools died.

i don't think you need bluetooth for what you want to do

i had an issue where i could answer my cell phone from any iDevice or apple computer in my house except for my brand new mac studio.

while on a call with apple support to resolve some file sharing permissions issues on my studio (which has a secondary role of being the house fileserver), apple was able to also resolve my phone transfer problem.

you have to have the right settings on all the devices!

@handheldgames

Thanks for the explanation. I couldn’t think of any scenarios where pairing would be necessary, but I can see that in your case you do need it.

Icubed’s suggestion about taking the call directly on the Studio looks like something that would be worth investigating too.

I also think it would definitely be worth some time giving Apple a call and allowing them to troubleshoot the issue. This can be time-consuming, but they are usually quite helpful in the long run if it is their issue.

i suspect he's really using WIFI only because the OP lumps them together as Bluetooth/WiFi.
it's very easy to conflate them together since most iPhone things are done through the Bluetooth,
except in this case of transferring calls to the mac.

Thanks for the replies. I've been able to transfer one call to the Studio and a couple failed attempts where Facetime does not load and the process appears to hang. While I can transfer calls to the studio, the Phone isn't ringing on it as it used to on the last mac.

The post was started as I was unable to see the mac studio from my iPhone phone app, even placing the Studio on Wifi until I paired it via Bluetooth. Historically, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has been setup in the [settings]-[phone] for handoff and making calls for a couple of years and it was only when I switched to the Studio that I ran into issues with setup.

While handoff technically calls out the need for wifi on both devices, like my last mac the Studio is hardwired and the iPhone hooks in through the wifi router.

my iphone 13 behaves with my studio exactly like what you were expecting now.
give apple support a buzz.

there’s a setting on the phone which has to be enabled. i felt pretty stupid after support pointed me to the right one since i had apparently enabled it properly for my MBP just a year earlier, but couldn’t figure it out for the studio.
