bluetooth dongles

hey all,
quick question:
i've been looking at bluetooth dongles on ebay because i have a crappy ol' ibook and it seems as though they all come with windows only software. will this matter? is it a plug n play sorta deal?

currently running ibook g4 w/ 10.3.9
possibly looking at something like this:

i'm going to be using it for a sonyericsson k750i, which means i DO want bluetooth 2.0, right?

I can't speak for that particular dongle, but I have the Belkin version working on my G5 and iBook with no problems at all. It came with a software CD or two but I didn't need to install anything to get it working.

If you have any concerns, you could always ask the seller.

There is a retailer in New Zealand called Dick Smith Electronics who sell a USB-bluetooth adaptor with their own brand name on it, and it worked fine when I used it with my old G3 iBook.

There are no guarantees but, if you buy a cheap no-name adaptor like this, there's a reasonable chance that it will work. If it's cheap enough, it may be worth the gamble.

I use the D-Link bluetooth adaptor in my old G3 iMac. It is excellent. Others should also work although the D-link works out of the box no CD install required.

Your phone being Bluetooth 2.0 is backwards compatible to Bluetooth 1.1 and unless you are transferring a lot of data I am not sure the 3 x faster is necessary.

That said if it is cheap enough and they let you return the product if it is not compatible then go for it.
