Ok, I'll admit this isn't really a Mac specific question and more multi-device, but I didn't see a more appropriate location for this.

I've been wanting to upgrade to a Multipoint capable Bluetooth headset for a while now, pretty much since Apple first announced the W1 chip, but I've been wishy-washy on it because my really old Sony DR-BT22 Bluetooth headset has been working fine up until now. It's not Multipoint, but hey, it worked.

On my work PC, I've been using a Logitech G930 gaming headset for my work conference calls, via the corporate softphone app, or sometimes Webex with direct Audio. My G930s are starting to go and need to be replaced. Constant disconnects, needs charging multiple times throughout the day, etc...

I figured this would be a good opportunity to finally upgrade to something with Multipoint, and finally have a single Bluetooth device I can use for my work PC, personal imac, iPhone, iPad, apple watch, etc....

However, I'm having trouble locating any Bluetooth headphones that let you easily mute the microphone like I can with the Logitech G930s, that had a dedicated mute button right on the device. I take a lot of my calls pacing around the office, or I'll go refill coffee, etc, and I really don't want to have to keep going back to my keyboard everytime I want to unmute. If I can't find a headset with a dedicated mute button, I may have to go back to the Logitech ones, but I'd really prefer not to if I don't have to.

Does anyone know of a set of bluetooth headphones, over ear, so they can be comfortable for all day wearing, that has a dedicated mute button or gesture for the mic?

Thanks for your help.

Well, a week ago I went to the local Best Buy, checked out every headset they had there, and eventually settled on a Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2, because it was the only one with a mute button on it.

However, the mute button doesn’t work for my use case. An email to Plantronics confirmed that the mute button doesn’t work with softphones. It didn’t work paired to my cellphone either, so I’m really not sure what it’s function actually is for. Unfortunately, Best Buy’s policy is that these are not returnable because you put them on your head, so I’m stuck with them. It’ll be hard pressed to justify dropping another few hundred on a different pair, unless I was certified they had the mute functionality I was looking for.
