When are they going to release a Bluetooth Ipod? This is what they need to keep on top. I also would obviously like some Bluetooth headphones that come with and work flawlessly of course. When can we expect apple to take the next step and when will the next generation IPOD(that hopefully will have bluetooth) be coming out?

Well its a pretty safe bet that the 5th generation iPods will have bluetooth, now that the iMac and PowerBook (and I THINK the PowerMac) all have BT 2.0 built in.
A Mac mini, iBook update will make these computers have it also (Apple drastically reduced the price of BT on a BTO Mac mini)
The eMac doesnt have BT but when Gen5 comes out of the iPods the eMac may be history...

I think it's possible but not a sure bet:
* Its audience would be limited--not everyone has BT, and very few have BT 2 yet. Speed is a factor.
* It would use power and add bulk (antenna).
* It would not charge your iPod... so you'd still need to connect a cord anyway.
So while I'm sure Apple has tossed this idea around, and it would be cool, I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of thing is long way off.

i dont see BT anytime soon, although apple are allowed to prove me wrong

HOWEVER, the one possiblity i see for BT being added to the iPods would be if the Airport Express stations recieved it as well so you could wirlessly stream through them.....then it would make a bit more sense

I also have to agree. I don't remember the exact numbers but I thought BT 2.0 had a transfer rate of 300 KB a second and that may be on the high side. It's obvious no one would use that for syncing their iPod but BT Headphones would be a good option to go and a BT enabled APE that would be able to receive songs via the iPod could be useful. The iPod could then act as a remote to an APE which many people want.Chip NoVaMac said:

Does anyone know if there are any BT 2.0 dongles available if Apple dropped the ball on this one? For some of us are looking at the high-end specs of Tiger and are giving serious weight to doing a DP PM G5.
Induction, mobile calls and Airport for iPod
A few weeks ago Creative showed a system that uses induction for wireless audio; I think that would be much better than BT because it uses less power.

While that would seem like a good idea to some people I just don't see it happening. I imagine it would use a lot more battery life and increased size as well as making the iPod appear to some as a PDA instead just an MP3 player, something I don't think Apple or Jobs wants.Sol said:

In some ways you describe the T-Mobile Sidekick II, except that it does not have iPod functionality. There is all this talk about buying tunes through the phone. I would rather see the ability to bookmark tunes that i could download on my home system and then upload to my cellphone system.

By the time Apple is ready to make another major change to the iPod there will be new batteries and wi-fi chips available that have none of today's issues.
As for not making the iPod into a PDA, why do Apple include a calendar, clock, contact book, notes and image browser with the current generation?

Good point. I think something like that would be a good idea but I don't think it's need to keep the iPod on top of the market. Then again I don't work for Apple so what do I know.Chip NoVaMac said:
These are just small things that keep the iPod above the others without crossing over into the PDA market. I know the new batteries will be available but how soon? I would imagine the 5G iPod to be out this summer. I think that eventually the iPod will include a wi-fi chips of some sort but I don't think this soon.Sol said:

I was speaking from the point about ITunes enabled cellphones. I don;t care about downloading tunes right then and there on my cellphone. If you have a tune that you shared with me one way or another, I would rather have the ability to bookmark it for future purchase. i don 't need to pay the price for instant gratification.
I would rather have a single device that might be able to serve me as my iPod mini and my cellphone have.
