I have tried multiple keyboards with my iPad Mini 5. And they all seem to have difficulty pairing up.

Once I do get them paired up, it's OK. But sometimes it takes multiple reboots and/or multiple turning Bluetooth on/off tries for it to finally get connected.

The keyboard I am currently using is Bluetooth 3.0 (or so it says). And the OS on my iPad is 13.4.1.

Anyone else have these pairing issues with their external Bluetooth keyboards? Other than rebooting my iPad multiple times, anyone else find a solution? Thanks.

I agree that updating is important.

I had an iPad Mini 5 and didn't have any pairing issues with the Magic BT keyboard or a Zagg Rugged Book keyboard case. But there was always a few seconds delay; it wasn't an immediate connection. It's one reason I went with an iPad Pro to take advantage of the smart connectors.

Does the battery level of your BT keyboard make a difference, i.e., connects better when fully charged?

Just put new batteries into the keyboard. iPad Mini is also at full charge.

So I don't think it is the batteries that are the problem. Wish it was that simple.

I had the same issues with my wife’s Mini. Very frustrating. I don’t know if it was an update (suspect it was) but it started working and have had no issues since. This was about 2-3 months ago that the problem resolved itself.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I did update and it is better. It only took me 3 attempts (turning Bluetooth off and on) for it to connect. Before that it took me 10-15 times (or more).

And after it slept, it did recognize the keyboard after I woke the iPad up again. That rarely happened before. So it does seem to have improved the situation. Will continue to monitor it and let you all know if it is completely fixed.
