Older bluetooth mouse switches off randomly on a new Ipad Air iOS 17. Device sees it but won't hold a connection.

Thoughts, anyone?

  • What iOS version?
  • Has it been working in the past with other iOS versions, if so, which one?
  • What brand and model mouse?
  • Does the same thing happening on other devices when using the same mouse?
  • Are there any FW updates available for the mouse?

IOS 17.6.1
OTHER VERSIONS? No. iPad is brand new.
BRAND? Apple Bluetooth Don’t know model #
SAME THING? Yes. On my laptop Mac Air OS 14.6.1
FIRMWARE? Have no idea. How do I find out?

Thx much

Ok, so I guess its not an isolated iPadOS 17 issue as you do have the same problem with your mac. Sounds more like its related to the mouse and how that works.

Not sure how or if Apple do provide updates to their Magic Mouse (guessing its what you have) but I would like to think they do. Google or Apple support is prob your best option there to find a solution if there aren't people here that knows how to fix it. Maybe its better to post this in the Mac area as I think more Mac users use mouse than iPad users. Better chance someone sees it. Also see if you can find the model no: it's prob easier to find out if there are any FW around.

When it comes to iPadOS updating to 17.7 won't make a difference in this case, but would still recommend doing so as it contains a load or recommended security updates.

Thanks for your prompt input.
I've found out the mouse software versions: 0.8.4, 3.0.6 and 3.1.1. The highest (newest) mouse has less problems with connection than the other two. They are all considered "Magic Mice", of course. Does this tell you anything useful?
thx again

No, not much. I have used Magic Mouse in the past (the battery version) but never really got a long with it and now have a Logitech mouse and keyboard when using my Mac, PC or iPad. It has BT profiles if you're not using a USB hub or similar and want to use the dongle.

As you mention, there seems to be updates for these devices but not if they address this particular issue that you are having.

But drop a question in the Mac area, think there is a better chance you get answers there.
