I have a new 6S and I'm trying to connect it via bluetooth with my iMac so I can airdrop small files and such. The devices find each other, give the pairing code, but they wont connect. I get a popup on the phone saying my iMac is "not supported". Is there a way to address this or work around it? Thank you!

How old is the iMac and what OS are your running.
Also, doesn't airdrop work over wifi?

If your iMac doesn't have bluetooth 4 it won't work simple as that. You can always use a bluetooth USB dongle I suppose.

My iMac is about 5+ years old and the OS is whatever's current. I have iCloud and all that on it. And I am unfamiliar with what Bluetooth version it may have. Will have to try and look and see. Airdrop is via Bluetooth. But I did try and my iPad mini 2 does connect to the iMac Bluetooth, but I still can't airdrop documents or pics between them.

Your iMac is just too old.

It only works with Bluetooth 4.0 and:

You need a 2012 or newer Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012)

and

iOS 7 or later
  • iPhone 5 or later
  • iPad Pro
  • iPad (4th generation) or later
  • iPad mini or later
  • iPod touch (5th generation) or later
