I know with other Bluetooth phones you can pair them with OS X and use Address Book to send text messages via your Mac's keyboard. Can this be done with the iPhone or has Apple disabled this because they want you to do everything through iTunes?

I had the same question. I paired my iPhone with my powerbook, but when I tried to use the text message feature in Address Book it asked for a passkey, which wasn't sent to my phone, so I'm not sure what it wanted.

I really hope Apple will open up BT on the iPhone because I'm really going to miss using BluePhoneElite, but I'd at least like to be able to use Address Book.

On one of my Macs of course
Aloha Benjamindaines and swindmill,

I haven't tried that one as of yet, but I have a Plantronics bluetooth headset and my code is 0000 (the default). Try that code and see if it works. This could be functionality that hasn't been implemented yet.

UPDATE: I successfully paired my iPhone with my iMac, but alas no services were supported to use the Bluetooth connection between the two, thus the connection was cut :(
