Bluetooth Question

So here's the deal. A couple of years ago when I got a tv for my room, my dad built a rack of shelves into the wall, one for my tv, one for my stereo and one for random stuff. It's always been nice, but restricting. I like to move my room around, and My desk is forced to stay right next to that rack to transmit audio to my receiver via a hard wire.

Seeing as my iMac has bluetooth built in, I was wondering if it is at all possible to send stereo high quality audio over bluetooth to some sort of receiver that would feed into two RCA plugs... Now, I'm not talking audiophile quality, this is just a $400 sony rig, no crown audio here, but I dont want it to sound like those old 900mhz wireless headphones with all the interference.

Is this at all possible? Or am I doomed to either staying put, or running 5' of cable under my carpet?

I don't know much about the Bluetooth receivers, but if I were in your position, I'd get an Airport Express for $99. It has AirTunes, which means it will put a drop-down menu in the right bottom corner of iTunes. You click it, select iTunes instead of computer speakers, and your iTunes sounds (music/movies/tv shows/etc) will come out of the Airport. Now the Airport has a headphone jack on the bottom, so you can connect it to your stereo system. The sound quality is excellent; just like it was coming out of your computer's headphone jack.

And, there are some hacks into getting Airtunes to also work with non-iTunes content, though originally its iTunes-only.

If you have carpet in your room, you could even run a simple audio cable under your footboard.... just thought I would mention it in case you didn't think about it.

I would recommend running a cable - however I would expect the iMac to know what to do. It will appear as an audio device to the mac but you might need to change your output in sysprefs.
