Hello,

Just trying to learn a bit:

a. I understand the the iMac has a built in "receiver" to communicate with
the Apple keyboard: Is this via Bluetooth ?

b. I am using a Logitech keyboard that came with one of those small Dongles
to put into a USB Port. Is this via Bluetooth (also) ? Or, a different "protocol" ?

c. Should the iMac be able to read the Logitech Keyboard and Mouse, directly, without the use
of the Dongle for the Keyboard and Mouse ?

Thanks,
Bob

Yes it uses Bluetooth. Turn your keyboard on and set it to discovery mode.
Go to the Bluetooth settings on your iMac and see if it's there. I suspect it will be without the need for the dongle (saving you a port).

All Apple wireless keyboards use bluetooth for the connection.
The Logitech dongle (the Unifying Receiver) would not be bluetooth, but RF. The keyboard has a matching transmitter built-in, and relies on that dongle to connect to your computer.
Logitech DOES sell bluetooth keyboards and mice (but those don't need the external dongle with your Mac). If it comes with the Unifying dongle, it's not bluetooth.
You will need the dongle to use that Logitech keyboard.
But, yes, if the Logitech keyboard is bluetooth, then you don't need an external dongle. But, the presence of the dongle tells you that the keyboard is not bluetooth.

Hi,

Very clear.
Thanks.

One more followup:

Are all the Dongles the same ? e.g., one Dongle will work with any Logitech Non-Bluetooth keyboard, or are they specifically matched to individual keyboard/Mouse models ?
