But since installing (Mac mini M1 2020 8gb ram 256 SSD) 12.2.1 on an external drive to test out Monterey and see if I like I don't. Overall its pretty good. But bluetooth never works. It shows [TV] UN55JS700D. But my amazon luna controller I got off ebay never works. I put it in pairing mode and nothing shows up in bluetooth in the system preferences. I even connected it to the mini with a usb c cable as it says on their website it works on Mac and PC. It needs to be a data cable and not just charging. So I thought it might be the case. But the same cable and controller works on my moms pc. It recognizes all the buttons in the game controller test in the control panel. But on the mini it does not work. Nothing recognizes. No programs like controllers lite or open emu recognize it. I know I can go back to Big Sur but I would like to keep unto date. Plus Monterey has some nice features like links in the facetimee which Big Sur does not have so I can communicate with an iPhone or android. I would hate to downgrade to Big Sur. Would like to fix the bluetooth issue.

Wireless connections between devices can be problematic. You said that the luna controller worked on Big Sur?

It needs to be a data cable and not just charging.

That is a cable compatibility issue. Do you have any other USB data cables available?

Reduces the odds of a cable problem, but not a definitive answer. The error message clearly says that your Apple device is for some reason not liking the cable. No way to know if it is a hardware, software or cable issue. Since cables are the weakest link in the chain if you have another cable, such as one from the Apple Store, that will eliminate the cable as a possibility cause of the problem. That's one reason why I never purchase cheap cables. Too many problems.

I agree with this. I've had it with HDMI and USB3 cables on my M1 Mini. OP should try a known good cable, or stop worrying.

I tried 2 different C to C cables. One black cable I use in the car for charging my phone. And the white one from my dads MacBook Pro 2017. Still no luck.

The USB-C cable spec contains various parts:

1. Power delivery
2. Display support (DVI, HDMI)
3. Data transfer
4. Thunderbolt

The car charging cable you mentioned evidently supports (1) but there is no guarantee that it will support 2-4. It is chaos. That is why you need to carefully check the specifications of a cable which you purchase to make sure that it supports the features you want, and purchase only from a top tier vendor who can give you support if needed.

"Make sure to check the specs on any PC you're thinking of buying, because not all USB-C ports are alike."

Again, it may not be the cable, but that is the first place to start.

I tried the white anker cable on my pc. And a new bestbuy essentials cable I just baught. No joy. The anker recognize my phone on my moms pc and show internal and sd card. And the essentials works on my hp windows 11 laptop to show internal and sd. So data works. But on my mac no luck. Even in big sur no controller recognized.

I cut the internal drive in half and installed a fresh copy of Monterey on one half. Still no luck. I found an old madcatz ctrl laying around. Paired nicely with bluetooth. And even worked with a micro usb cable. But the amazon luna did neither wire or bluetooth. So it must be a controller issue. But its weird it works in Big Sur.

Bluetooth is definitely messed up in Monterey. In a fresh install either external or internal there is no com.apple.Bluetooth.plist. Copying it from Big Sur does not help. So I reinstalled Big Sur to an external. My amazon luna controller worked in Big Sur fine. Then I Monterey on top of that. On a fresh install of Monterey the amazon luna controller does not work. But installing a copy of Monterey on top of Big Sur should work. It should just keep the same devices in the bluetooth list in the system preferences. But it erases everything. Its like a fresh install. Nay previously paired devices are gone.

Way out in space
I've never had Bluetooth problems until Monterey. Now I have to turn it off and on most days so it recognises connected devices and stops overloading the cpu and spinning up the fans.

Good to know I am not the only one.
