First of all I want to thank you guys for all the great information on this forum. I was able to perform my first CPU upgrade on my mac, along with other little upgrades. Unfortunately, when I removed the front fan assembly, I accidentally ripped the bluetooth antenna cable. It tore at proximal end, just where the metal connector and cable meet. Its circled red in picture A. I then covered exposed cable with electrical tape to prevent any further damage (pictured in green circe).

I thought that the easiest way to get bluetooth back would be by adding a usb dongle. I purchased an IO GBU521. I understand that in order for this to work you need to use bluetooth explorer from Apple Developer tools to switch from default bluetooth card and this third party one. But this doest seem to work. When I select the host controller Broadcom and activate it, it instantly reverts back to the Apple card. I am running the latest version of Bluetooth Explorer supported by El Capitan, version 4.4.0 (See Picture B)

Before I give up using bluetooth dongle, does anyone have any suggestions I can try? I am also considering just replacing the antenna if I cant get the dongle to work. I think this is the antenna I need: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-...457123&hash=item41d118705f:g:URsAAOSwShNZ1Qkc

If i replace the antenna, does anyone know if the end with the tab connects to anything? I know the small circle connects to the bluetooth card but i am not sure where that rectangle metal connects to.

Thanks guys

I have a BT 4,1 USB dongle in my cMP 4,1 upgraded to 5,1 .. BUT .. I have two usB 3,O cards installed so to counter interference I have the dongle connected via a 1 metre extension cable. I did not have to use BueTooth Explorer. The dongle works very well.
