Hi there,

I have a 2014 rMBP 13" hooked up to a 24" Dell U2412M monitor via a Mini Display Port to Display Port cable. I understand that OS X renders fonts quite 'smoothly' and as such it looks drastically different to the crispness displayed on the actual rMBP screen, however there are cases of downright blurring.

It's completely random, too. Open up the calendar app in 'week' view and half of the events have sharpish text and the other half are actually blurry.

Another place where this is easily shown is Airmail. This behaviour is completely random and seems to have no rational explanation behind it. I will see sharpish text at the top of an email, scroll down and everything is blurry. Scroll back up and now that once sharp text is blurry. I am not making this up. You know what's even more random? This does not happen if I click and drag the scrollbar, only if I mousewheel down.

I have tried the obvious EDID override fix as found on Google but it made no difference. I have also tried disabling LCD font smoothing, again it made no difference.

I am therefore very desperate. I have (and need to use) a large screen at times, so if I can't get this resolved then I really don't know what the point is.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just for completeness you are running at 1920x1200 native?

Yes, well, 'best for display' is selected and clicking 'scaled' shows 3 resolutions of which 1920x1200 is ticked. Looks right to me.

Check color settings in your monitor's menu. Make sure input format is RGB. I would also try factory reset the monitor, it could be sharpness/image enhance settings.

I'm thinking about purchasing this monitor (Dell U2412M) to use with my 2014 rMBP via thunderbolt --> display port.

did you ever get this figured out? does the font still look blurry on this monitor? would you recommend this purchase?
