BMW Digital Key proximity feature not working on new iphone 16 pro max

I have a 2025 BMW X5 with digital key. My wife and I both upgraded our iphones. My iphone 16 pro is working great with the digital key, but her iphone 16 pro max isn't working properly. It only recognizes it when using NFC by holding the phone over the doorhandle. The proximity feature doesn't work. Anybody else experiencing this?

Yep, I think this is a common issue with 18.0, 18.1 betas.
