I have a Canon MP480 hooked up to my Mac Pro (OSX 10.7.5) via USB. I've been printing to this printer for over a year with no problem wirelessly from a PC laptop. Now the laptop does not see the printer any more.

I think the problem lies with the Sharing Preference. When I hit edit, there is an option to check "Advertise services in this domain using Bonjour". It was not checked. So I check it, exit Preferences, and the PC laptop still wont see it, and the Bonjour App on the PC wont see it either. Open up the System preferences, and the darn advertise button is unchecked again. It wont stay checked!

I've repaired permissions, restarted, but no change. I can check that box, and it remains checked as long as I don't quit System Preferences. But the PC still wont see the printer.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I know this might not be the answer you were looking for, but did you have this exact same problem running Snow Leopard? This is the very reason why I skipped Lion because of little quirks that cause things not to work when they worked before. I had a similar problem close to yours and it was internet sharing.. My Mac Pro runs via Airport while my G5 also runs via Airport, but for some reason the airport signal strength declines rapidly when using the G5, so I had to use Ethernet. Took one end of the ethernet cable and put it into my mac pro, other end into G5..

The crux of this is that while in Snow Leopard the internet sharing was stable and never turned off automatically, when I tried it in Lion and Mountain Lion, it didn't stay connected at all.

I am seeing if we both have parallel situations here... My guess would be is to uninstall the camera and re-install the software for it. Repair permissions and restart the machine. Go to system preferences/Sharing.. Enable Bonjour sharing. That should fix the problem. Lion has had problems with hardware lately turning off.

This very well may have started after going from 10.6 to 10.7. I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

10.7 was really BUGGY!!! I am not so sure about Mountain Lion as I got my first major problem with it last night.. it did an ABNORMAL reset and my entire Mac Pro was rebooting itself.. Snow Leopard did not exhibit this problem, EVER!

The Best OS X was and is Leopard and Snow Leopard... Tiger was nice, but Leopard and Snow Leopard = the best and most stable of the Mac OS X series.
