That means you never lose track of your reading progress. Just open the BookFusion app, and you’re on the right page.

Highlights & Annotations

Using BookFusion, you have powerful highlighting and annotation features to allow you to get the most value from what you read. You can highlight with custom colors (other apps usually limit you to between three and five preselected colors), add tags and notes to your highlights, and much more.

It might not be immediately apparent but auto-scroll has the following main benefits:

  • Hands-Free Reading: The biggest advantage is that auto-scroll allows readers to enjoy a book without having to manually turn pages or swiping the screen. This especially useful for those who are eating, playing an instrument or engaged in any activity that occupies their hands.
  • Consistent Reading Pace: It promotes a consistent reading pace, which can be beneficial for readers who are practicing speed reading or who want to maintain a steady reading speed.

BookFusion iOS 1.32.0 – EPUB Area/Image Highlights, Auto Dark/Light Theme in Reader & More!

EPUB Area/Image Highlights

We are thrilled to announce a significant enhancement to our iOS app – the introduction of Area/Image-Based Highlighting for both EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 formats. This update brings our iOS app in line with our Web app, offering a unified and enriched user experience.

What’s New:

  1. Versatile Highlighting Options: Whether you wish to highlight an entire image or focus on a specific section, our new feature accommodates your needs. This flexibility is perfect for emphasizing key visuals or detailed parts of images in your EPUBs. This is useful for capturing graphs, tables, specification diagrams & more.
  2. Offline and Online Accessibility: Enjoy the freedom to make highlights and annotations both offline and online. Whether you’re on the go without internet access or connected at home, your reading experience remains uninterrupted and fully functional.
  3. Cross-Device Synchronization: Your area/image highlights and notes are automatically synced across all your devices. Start reading and annotating on your iOS device and seamlessly pick up where you left off on any other platform.
To start making area/image highlights when reading EPUBs:

  1. Long press on any image that you would like to highlight
  2. Click the area/image highlight icon (square icon) from the toolbar that pops up
  3. Select the entire image or a section of the image you would like to highlight. That’s it!

All area/image based highlights can now easily be created and synced between iOS and Web as well as being available for export. Support coming to Android soon.

Auto Dark/Light Theme in Reader

We are happy to Introduce the auto dark/light theme in the reader for your enhanced reading comfort.

Key Enhancements:

  1. Automatic Synchronization with System Settings: The reader now intelligently matches your device’s system settings for dark and light modes, providing a consistent experience as you use your device.
  2. End to Manual Switching: Say goodbye to the jarring experience of a bright screen in a dark room or the strain of a light theme in bright sunlight. The auto theme transition takes care of these adjustments for you, ensuring the display is always easy on your eyes.
  3. Smooth and Unobtrusive Transitions: The shift between dark and light themes is designed to be fluid and unnoticeable, so your reading flow remains uninterrupted. You won’t even realize the change as it happens! Whether you’re reading in bed, commuting, or lounging outdoors, the reader adapts, allowing you to be completely immersed in what you read.

Seems interesting, however I would rather pay a one time price vice subscription…

Seems interesting, however I would rather pay a one time price vice subscription…

We provide a free tier that is limited to max 10 books. Once you have hit the 10 uploaded books you can then upload 2 more books in 31 days provided you have 8 or less books saved. The average reader reads 10-12 books per year. If we did not have these limits then our service would simply be abused. All features are unlocked by default.

You can use the app for free with up to 10 eBooks with all features unlocked, If you want to use it for more than that then you have to pay. You do not even need to create an account. Subscriptions start at $1.99 which is very reasonable if you want to go beyond the free option. We provide a full ebook reader and manager that seamlessly syncs, eBooks, bookmarks, reading progress, highlights & annotations across all devices and will support upcoming collaborative features that use BookFusions backend (cloud).

All other e-reader apps do not offer the features or functionality we provide. You might have noticed all "other e-reader apps have" not been updated for the last 3-4 years as they have been abandoned. Expectations of continuous updates and new features are not a "one time" expense. Unfortunately we cannot reasonably offer a one time payment due to the following reasons:

  • Infrastructure, storage and other costs are due monthly
  • Salaries are also due monthly(app needs to be maintained)
  • Other recurring expenses
Most apps that offer a one time payment, often end up not being maintained pass a couple years since the developers/company need to work on other projects to supplement their income.

In summary there are recurring expenses that will always be due monthly or yearly. We want to build a sustainable company that does not depend on ads or selling users data that stands the test of time. As a result, we won't be able to provide a single payment plan as they are not sustainable.

Understandably this model does not work for some readers and that is okay there are many alternatives such as Apple Books and others.

Thanks for the detailed response, and I would most likely fit into the free tier for ever so that is good to know maybe I’ll give it a go

I would also add that I believe that there are more than some readers that are turned off by a subscription model.

Maybe there is a happy medium to be found in the future
