Bookmarks disappeared at the top of the page

I restarted my MacBook and when it loaded, the bookmarks on the toolbar at the top disappeared.
If I go to bookmarks at the top and hit the view bookmarks or whatever the link is, it appears on the left side, but I can't return it to the top.

I have tried hitting every link and tab but nothing has worked so far.

Any suggestions?

I just figured it out.
I went to View and hit Always Show Tab Bar.
Although I don't know why it happened when I restarted it.
