I am not familiar with Amazon's kindle.

But if one purchases a legal book with the amazon kindle device say for $9.99. Synch's it the computer.

Than has an iPad. Downloads the Kindle iPad app. Can we re-download the same book from the amazon.com store and transfer to the kindle app on the iPad for free? Or do we have to repurchase the book again in the iPad format?

You can sync your purchased *books to any of your Kindle registered devices.

* no mags or newspapers though.

Yes, even your iPhone or Touch if you own one. I have the same Kindle books on my iPad and on my Touch. You just have to read them with the free Kindle app.

Thank you so much guys/gals. My co-worker will be very happy. She's not a techie. Loves her Kindle but is jealous of my iPad.

She ordering an iPad online now since she now knows she can transfer her books from her kindle purchase over to the iPad version.
