Boosting Wifi reception tricks

Was looking around to find a way to boost the wifi reception on the MBA's end, since I don't have control of my school's campus wifi dealings. I'm slightly irritated that the plastic MBs of previous generations would get perfectly fine and 3+ bar signals while the alum macs and my mba wouldn't get jack.

it looked like a joke to me, but at this point I'm looking for anything to help me get wifi signals.

Anyone have any tricks or commercial products for extending reception?

This would require I buy a ethernet adapter, and I wouldn't mind carrying it around along with a 5ft ethernet cable, so I can do this lil trick on my phone while on campus. Anyone try this? does it work? it looked like a joke to me, but at this point I'm looking for anything to help me get wifi signals.

Are you serious? It isn't real, all of the videos on there are just bogus. Maybe try different areas of the buildings to get better reception, that's really all you can do. Maybe even ask your IT dept. at your school if theres anything they can do.

Yea, well im asking if theres a way to do it thats not bogus, rather than disregarding it and asking me to move to a place where theres wifi. classrooms have walls. at least in the us lol.

Why would you even post the link in the first place then? If you knew it was fake, what's the point? It's a legit way to get a signal by simply moving closer to a router.
Anyways, if your system is up to date and you still don't get reception, there really isn't much you can do. It's not like an antenna can suddenly gain reception if you stick a sheet of aluminum foil on it or something, you have to just go to the signal. Take a sledgehammer to class and knock a wall down or something, that's probably your best bet.

Can you file a trouble ticket with the school's networking group? It might be that if they get enough complaints they will redo a wireless survey and add more access points or tune the channels, etc. Worth a shot .. maybe. Though, in my office, I work quite frequently with our networking group, and it is not a huge priority for them, so our wireless is OK but flaky and has a nasty interaction with our VPN (wireless is assumed public so you have to VPN back in to do useful work when on the wireless) which will lock up or render networking completely unusable on OSX inside of an hour .. no problems for Windows folks.
