i just recently purchased a macbook (black one, with 2 gigs of RAM), and ran into some hiccups, about 2 or 3 to be exact. what i really need to know is 1. are these common problems? and 2. should i notify apple support and have them replace my macbook?
any comments would be appreciated, i haven't used a mac since OS8, so bear with me.
here are the issues i'm running into:
when i first opened the macbook and hit the power button, it didn't boot. the super drive kept making noises over and over like it was trying to either eject or bring in a disc, and nothing came on the screen, and the hard drive was silent. so after multiple restarts, i threw the Mac OSX dvd in there to see if it would stop. well, it did, but it still didn't boot. after googling this, i found that a quick fix was to hold the macbook, disc drive down, and hit the power. this strangely worked....for the time being.
i went through all the set up and everything, and then i wanted to test out sleep. so i put it to sleep, and it would not boot back up. i then googled it again and figured out that a lot of people ran into this problem, and needed to re-set the RAM. so i pulled the ram out and put it back in, and it miraculously booted. that being said, when i put it to sleep, and bring it back, i can't launch any applications. for instance, i'll bring it back from sleep and goto click Adium from the dock. the icon just bounces up and down for about 3 minutes, then stops, and everything is like that, nothing will load. so i'm forced to reboot it.
are these common issues? i'm really starting to think i got a lemon here, and i know i need to take care of this while apple care is free. i could use some guidance here, i don't really have experience with macbooks.
any help would be appreciated.
cliffs:
-initial problem with superdrive hanging and the macbook not booting up
-programs won't load after coming back from sleep
edit: i just brought it back from sleep after it sat asleep for awhile, and programs loaded fine. i'll keep checking to see if there's any consistency to the problem. have any of you ever experienced this?
