Just successfully installed Vista64 on Mac Pro (2008 model) via Boot Camp and i'm trying to run the Boot Camp 2.1 installer. However it won't launch.

I came accross this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/510141/

But when i search for "Boot Camp Services" in regedit it's not finding anything.

Any idea what's going on and how i can make it work?

Do i have to install Boot Camp 2.0 installer for windows first before 2.1? Because when i insert the Mac Installer CD 1 it doesn't launch Boot Camp installer (maybe because Vista64 isn't officially supported yet).

I heard though that you can directly install the 2.1 but i just wonder why it won't launch.

Thanks for help in advance!

Step 3 in the Boot Camp install guide:

Insert the Mac OS X disc.

The installer should start automatically. If you have AutoRun turned off, double-click the setup.exe file to start installing the drivers.

Follow the onscreen instructions.

If a message appears that says the software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.

If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you must respond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.

Boot Camp 2.1 Update will not run unless this step is accomplished.

As noted (i hope) inserting the Mac OS X disc won't launch the bootcamp installer in Vista 64Bit version. It worked in Xp-32bit.

Or can you confirm that it should work with Vista64 as well?

Your Mac Pro comes with system restore disks. I think the 64bit drivers are on it.

You can also grab a copy of "Mac Pro 64bit bootcamp drivers" from the usual sources.

Yes it worked for me when I installed Vista 64bit Ultimate on my 2008 MacBook Pro.

Note that the instructions state: if the file does not auto launch, double click the setup.exe file on the OSX disk to start the installer.

Hi, I stumbled upon this thread, because I had the same exact problem, but I solved it! I'm guessing you can't find "Boot Camp Services" because the "Services" part is in your own language, for example mine was "Boot Camp-tjenester", the last part is Danish. Instead just search for "Boot Camp", you'll stumble upon a window that has a "language" part, edit this to 1033 with "Decimal" selected and restart installer.

I don't know if this is the same problem, but when I click on Bootcamp Assistant I would get a message "You must update your system software before using this setup assistant" I just installed a new hard drive, it worked before I put the new hard drive in. All my system software is updated.
