Anyone know if the Bootcamp 3.1 fixes the Microphone not working in Windows Vista 32 bit issue with The Realtek Drivers on IMAC 3.1.

I had to use the following suggestion early today to fix my microphone issue, of course minutes later I see this post about 3.1 BootCamp drivers on the macrumour forums.

* Temporary Solution for Windows Realtek Driver Issue with Microphone not working on Windows Vista 32 bit system on a IMAC 2008, after you have updated to Boot Camp 3.0.

1) Goto Device Manager and uninstall the driver, remember to goto the other tab and click change settings before it will allow you to uninstall it.

2) Reboot back to windows, it will install a Microsoft driver, in which microphon works but audio does not as far as i can tell.

3) Put MAC OS 10.5 Boot Disc in Drive, select option to explore disk. goto /Boot Camp/Drivers Director and run Realtek Setup Exec

4) Restart Computer back into Windows mode and voila you should have a Microphone and sound both working.

*** Note you may wish to set your microphone boost to +10 best quality, as I found my fellow users on ventrillo seem to find it the best, +20 was giving bad quality for them.

OK, I've been waiting since Win7 came out for this update and now I don't know WTF to do with it. (BTW, unibody 13" Macbook running 10.6.2 and Win 7 64-bit).

As for the people who keep asking, "What's the big deal? I've been running 7 forever.", etc, here is the big deal. The trackpad works horribly tracking-wise and there is no multitouch going on so I can't right click on anything without using a mouse. None of the special buttons work so I can't use the keyboard to adjust screen brightness, eject CDs, or dim the display. No iSight either (not that I've ever used it). All this stuff worked in XP.

I've been patiently waiting update after update for Apple to fix the trackpad tap-to-click and scrolling issues, both for the 2006 MBP and the new unibody 2009, and every update I'm disappointed. It's gone from unusable, to annoying, and now "decent" but they just seem to fix one thing and break another with each update.

Why are the 2006 Core 2 Duo's not supported? This is stupid. Either way I have windows 7 running without bootcamp, no issues at all.

Ok, so an iMac 7,1 corresponds to what year?

My iMac is version 7,1. Is that 2006, 2007, 2008??

I'm confused about all this. I have an iMac early 2009 already running Windows 7 via bootcamp 2.1 - so are there any updates I can now download?

Curious why the 2006 Macs are not supported. I've been running 7 on my '06 MP for a couple months now, no prob. Also I know VMWare supports it so kinda bizarre. I also have 7 running on my Lenovo S10 netbook so I know it can't have anything to do with the chip or graphics

Any advice?

I have been planning to install a version of Windows on my primary portable (mid-2009 13.3" MacBook Pro). However, my previous experience made me cautious about Bootcamp. I am sorry to ask this in this thread, but somebody might be able to give some useful advice. There are a few things, though...

1. I use Snow Leopard on the machine and I use an external HDD with bootable Leopard. Currently, I have a 7200rpm Seagate HDD in the computer that I am planning to keep for years, even with newer MacBook Pros. The external HDD might go as I only kept Leopard for safety reasons.

2. I have a legit (Macupdate bundle) copy of Parallels 4. From what I have heard, I wouldn't mind Sun's Virtualbox either. Unfortunately, I haven't got Fusion.

3. I have a legit copy of XP Home Edition that I used with Bootcamp in the past (but haven't registered, didn't like Bootcamp). I also have a Windows 7 Release Candidate DVD that I haven't installed nor registered. Has the registration period expired? Will I be able to use the Release Candidate until the summer when it would be shutting off regularly, anyway? I mostly want to use Windows for very occasional GTA games and some of my old favourites (Anno series, etc), for MS Office and to keep my media library organised. For some reason, under iTunes I always end up with multiple copies of the same files - music and photos.

So my question is simple. Which combination would you recommend with Windows? Snow Leopard with a fast and large HDD or Leopard on external HDD? Bootcamp, Virtualbox or Parallels? XP or 7 release candidate? Also, 32 or 64 bits?

Many thanks!

Wyppeee!!! The mic finally works in Skype!!!

Win 7 Pro 64bit on a MBP 13"

this driver update fixed:
The Audio juack red light!
The mic is finally working!
(the very low speaker audio) - not sure, because I had the fix installed and not sure if the update uninstalled it...

Still not fixed:
The always on backlit keyboard.

Not usre if there were issues with the trackpad. I use the right corner for second click and I don't tab to click, so for me the trackpad works like before...

I have os 10.6.2 with latest updates. How and wehre do i update to bootcamp 3.1? I tried system update but it doesn't show up there. My boot camp version is 3.0.1.

Thanks

Just installed the Boot Camp update on the latest MBP 15" (2009) on Windows 7 64 bit.

"Pros":
-Fixes the digital audio red light issue, sound seems a bit louder at max (but still not as loud as on OS X).
-Tap to click actually works now and isn't super sensitive, but...

Cons:
-Tap to click absolutely does not work if you're resting your thumb on the trackpad. Worthless fix if you're not going to account for the resting thumb on the single button trackpad. There's nowhere else to put it!
-Still doesn't fix the always-on back-lit keyboard.

Why they can't just fix the trackpad issue once and for all...

Because of their childish attitude towards Windows. Anyone who uses it must be punished, in their view. Apple is doing that by providing crap drivers, making sure that you cannot get a pleasant experience of Windows on a Mac, particularly portables, despite it being possible. They simply want you to switch to Mac OS X.

How can there be any other explanation? Anyone with a brain understands that all these issues with crappy drivers that cannot be solved after YEARS, is something that should be solved in a few months, if Apple wanted to.

Installing now. Will report back with results.

So I'm back and everything's installed. My Windows Experience Index (WEI) score was as follows:

3.0 (with latest Nvidia driver, 195.62):

Processor: 6.1
Memory (RAM): 6.1
Graphics: 5.5
Gaming graphics: 6.1
Primary hard disk: 5.5

3.1 (which installs the Nvidia driver, 188.61):

Processor: 6.1
Memory (RAM): 6.1
Graphics: 5.5
Gaming graphics: 5.9
Primary hard disk: 5.5

So I'm just going to install the latest Nvidia driver. However, I've noticed a couple other awesome changes. Wireless internet speed...holy @#$*. In 3.0 it ran ok (got an average of 200-300 KB/s), but now with 3.1 I'm getting my full 2.6 MB/s, which is what I get in OS X. I've never had any problems with the trackpad before, but it feels like it works even better now. Unfortunately, the keyboard backlight still doesn't turn off all the way, but that's not a big deal.

I have an early 2006 MacBook 1,1 (NOT Pro), and it's not on the unsupported list, but the MacBook Pros are. Will mine work?

I have os 10.6.2 with latest updates. How and wehre do i update to bootcamp 3.1? I tried system update but it doesn't show up there. My boot camp version is 3.0.1.

Thanks

You update in windows. There's a Windows Apple Software Update app that you run.

The 3.1 update did not show up for me in Windows Apple Software Update. And, when I downloaded the actual .exe update file, it fails to run as well. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, truth be told.

I have also been running Windows 7 great on my i7 27-inch iMac.

Installed BC3.1 on my MB, however when I go to "About Boot Camp" it shows 3.0 even though I installed the 3.1.

Also noticed that when I run the Apple Software Update utility, it still shows BC3.1 as an option to download and install, even though I already have it installed and running.

Can you guys confirm.

I don't feel like reading thru all these messages to see if someone has already mentioned this...

just thought I'd say I've had Windows 7 since it was pre-released to engineering students and it has been running flawlessly on my Maccbookpro1,1 (Early 2006).

I'd like it to be running on my Macbook Pro (Early 2010), what gives?
