So still no support for HFS? I thought this (ability to read/write Mac OS volumes) was supposed to be one of the big things in BC 3.1!

Just as well -- I bought another copy of MacDrive this weekend (specifically for my Boot Camped Win7). I got tired of waiting for Apple to get off their behinds on this.

You can read using Boot Camp 3.0 and HFS Explorer failing that.

Sound on my iMac (Mid 2007) is still distorted

I have a 20-inch aluminum iMac (Mid 2007). Windows 7 Professional is installed via BootCamp 3.1.

SOund from the iMac's built-in speakers is distorted or garbled. The Windows 7 startup sound, for example, is accompanied by a combination low-level crackling and hissing sound. Sounds in Halo 2 suffer from the same distortion.

I assumed this problem was due to the BootCamp drivers that shipped with Snow Leopard but having just updated to BootCamp 3.1 I find that the distortion persists.

Sound is clear and perfect on the iMac when booted into Snow Leopard.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

As long as the drivers work regardless this is vaguely OK, but to be honest its pretty damn lame not to support the first Intel Macs when they are far above the minimum requirements for Windows 7 and are only 3-4 years old.

Agreed.. I'll be installing Win 7 on my 2007-model Mac Pro. For them to say "not supported" is complete and utter garbage.

Bootcamp 3.1 Upgrade for 64-bit Windows installed fine on my 2009 Mac Pro. Although, it ran fine with 3.0. The most noticeable difference is that the Magic Mouse scroll works. The two finger swipe does not work to go back and forth but nonetheless, the scroll works which is great.

Wow, and I JUST got my iMac today and was looking into any problems I might run into... perfect!

I'll give this a shot after my time machine backup restores to the new computer.

Windows 7 runs just fine on my 2006 Mac Pro.....using bootcamp 3.0 drivers.

I'll boot into it later and download the 3.1 drivers I suppose.

I don't see why it's "unsupported"...I know they won't upgrade the firmware to EFI64 on these computers, but Windows runs just fine for gaming here.

Although, my main Mac Pro boot volume is a software raid of 2 x 500 gb Disks, and because of that the Apple HFS driver totally blue screened Windows 7. Works fine on the Macbook Pro though.

Macbook early 08.

I own a Early 2008 ((Black)) Macbook 2.4 ghz proc. etc... Two things, one, Where do I find the update for Bootcamp, on the Mac or Windows side?. Two, In addition to the audio and trackpad issues, I also have graphics card issues, yet I am able to use my Mic and iSight cam.

Any help please?

Macbook, 16gb iPhone 3gS.

Oh yes, it's amazing. Amazingly ****. Installed Windows 7 - reboot - Black Screen... Quality operating system this Windows 7... NOT!

Next time try restarting instead of shutting down.

Really though, go in to detail if you want to be taken seriously. Otherwise, troll somewhere else.

Partially my fault. There is an Apple fix for this Windows foo'up : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173

Windows 7 doesn't include drivers for Apple hardware. Generic drivers for many things, yes, but not something specific like Apple's hardware. It even says so in that article:

This can happen because the Windows 7 installer does not include the necessary graphics or Bluetooth drivers for this Mac.

This isn't Windows fault.

So I'm back and everything's installed. My Windows Experience Index (WEI) score was as follows:

3.0 (with latest Nvidia driver, 195.62):

Processor: 6.1
Memory (RAM): 6.1
Graphics: 5.5
Gaming graphics: 6.1
Primary hard disk: 5.5

3.1 (which installs the Nvidia driver, 188.61):

Processor: 6.1
Memory (RAM): 6.1
Graphics: 5.5
Gaming graphics: 5.9
Primary hard disk: 5.5

Weird.... I have the Unibody 17" 2.66 GHz and this is what I get.

3.0 (with latest Nvidia driver, 195.62):

Processor: 6.3
Memory (RAM): 5.5
Graphics: 6.1
Gaming graphics: 6.2
Primary hard disk: 5.7

3.1 (which installs the Nvidia driver, 188.61):

Processor: 6.3
Memory (RAM): 5.5
Graphics: 5.8
Gaming graphics: 6.0
Primary hard disk: 5.7

Now why am I getting a lower score with my ram, when we both have dual channel 4G ?

I've been patiently waiting update after update for Apple to fix the trackpad tap-to-click and scrolling issues, both for the 2006 MBP and the new unibody 2009, and every update I'm disappointed. It's gone from unusable, to annoying, and now "decent" but they just seem to fix one thing and break another with each update.

You know you could do an olds style right click? 2 fingers resting on pad then click down

Are you using 64-bit Vista or 7? If you are using 7...how the hell did you install it? Did you use the 3.0 that came on the SL DVD or one from somewhere else? The one on the DVD flat out does not run, and this new 3.1 doesn't do anything but update the graphics driver.

Seriously. I like 7 a lot more than XP but since I can't seem to run Bootcamp AT ALL its not as nice as it should be. What am I missing?

Simple version: How do you install bootcamp on 64-bit Win7?

As an owner of a mid-2006 MBP, I feel left out in the cold with the lack of proper support from Apple regarding Bootcamp and Windows 7.

Why exclude the Macs released in '06? Is it a subtle way to push us to upgrade to newer hardware?

I will still try to install both versions; the 32 and 64 bit Win7 on my MBP and see what happens. Not that I need it to be rock solid reliable, but it'd be nice if it worked properly and all the drivers loaded correctly. I don't use Windows much, but it's still nice to have it running natively on the Mac.

Yes, but when Apple has claimed to support tap-to-click in Windows (for how many years now?), users shouldn't have to come up with their own work-arounds to make up for Apple's laziness, or whatever it is that's preventing them from making a decent trackpad driver.

Is this supposed to come through software update? I'm not seeing it. I did install the security update though.

Someone look for a hint code of an unidentified Boot Camp version running on the tablet ;)

No because it's a driver update that runs under windows after you complete installation of Windows 7. The Boot Camp Assistant doesn't change.
