LiveMesh issues with BootCamp 3.1

I've had my MBP for a few weeks now and installed Win 7 with BootCamp 3.0 straight away. I tried to install 3.1 through Apple Software Update - failed. Tried using a manual update, also failed (silently).

I removed Microsoft LiveMesh, rebooted and ran the manual update. It asked to 'Repair' the existing install and all completed successfully. i think it has something to do with the LiveMesh mirror display driver.

Now running Bootcamp 3.1 on Win7.

Got the drivers deleted, now real 32 bit Apple/ATI drivers but freaking slow in "Dirt 2" menus. Are the Apple ATI drivers not the latest ATI drivers? My hacked ones worked better, just not 32 bit color.... Catalyst 9.10? Do you guys get that too? Up to date would be 9.12..*sighs* Apple....

Something is seriously wrong with the BootCamp 3.1 Video Driver on the late 2009 iMacs. It's listed in the device settings at True Color, 32 bit, but it definitely isn't. The colour banding is horrendous.

No because it's a driver update that runs under windows after you complete installation of Windows 7. The Boot Camp Assistant doesn't change.

Wouldn't be surprised if it did in 10.6.3 - it currently doesn't mention Windows 7 at all in the little blurb in the assistant.

Looking forward to trying out Windows 7 on my MBP early '08 - might go for an 'installing fun' weekend :).

It's about time, I've been using a USB sound card which I think I'm going to keep using since it actually saves me clutter.

I don't really use OSX, so does anyone know how I can delete it and just have Windows 7 on it? It would give much needed hard drive space back.

Agreed.
It's super noticeable on the logon/off/reboot splash screens.
Verified it was running in 32 bit colour.
My computer says yes, but my eyes say nein.

I applied the update on my 1,1 Mac Pro thinking it wasn't going to work and to my surprise, it worked and everything is still running as it should. Cool. :D

Doesn't seem that way:

You can use a 32-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista with any Intel-based Mac computer. You cannot use a 64-bit version of Windows XP on any Mac computer.
You can use a 32-bit version of Windows 7 with any of these Mac computers:
  • An iMac or MacBook Pro introduced in 2007 or later
  • Any Intel-based Mac Pro, MacBook, or Mac mini
You can use a 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 with any of these Mac computers:
  • A Mac Pro or MacBook Pro introduced in early 2008 or later
  • An iMac or MacBook introduced in late 2009 or later
If you’re not sure when your Mac computer was introduced, see http://www.apple.com/support/hardware, click your Mac model, and look for an article on identifying your Mac.

A real fix to that problem would require a firmware/EFI update.

I had the same issue under BC3.0 if I installed the latest (9.12) ATi drivers. Apparently its an issue with newer ATi drivers in general.

I found that the Apple drivers would crash in Windows 7 x64 (on iMac 27" i5) and the ATi ones caused colour banding. I did find that the Mobility 9.9 Beta Drivers work like a charm though. Probably not the greatest option but its stable and the colour (and gaming) all work pretty well.

I was hoping to install BC3.1 tonight, but if the graphics issues are still there I'll leave it for now. I finally got everything working well, I don't wanna mess with it again.

Hmm, no support for the MacPro1,1? It's got a 64 bit CPU and SHOULD be able to run Windows 7 just fine.

When I try to boot the Windows 7 64 bit install disc on it, it hangs at a weird "select cd-rom boot type" error.

This is all half-hearted; my desire to run Windows is rather low, but I have a license key through work so I figured I might as well. Sounds like it may be more trouble than it's worth, though.

What's with Apple orphaning still very capable hardware? I understand them dropping PowerPC support but this 2006 Mac Pro is still hella fast.
Check out post #105. The link should solve your issue. :)

Gee, if only Microsoft had engaged in an extensive, year long Beta and RTM program for Windows 7, that way Apple could have had this ready when Windows 7 was released.

for some reason the 64 bit update is not working on my 13 inch MBP

when i try and run it it says its checking for the display drivers then my screen flickers then nothing happens. i know i am running windows 7 64 bit for a fact... any ideas guys?

Seems like folks are deep linking. The main info is here:

The 64 bit package seems fine.

Thanks for the help.

I went ahead and installed Bootcamp 3.1 - the red LED is gone, the mic now finally works and everything else appears to be working in order.

The only problem is the low audio output issue has returned for me. I had previously been using a custom driver that someone created that boosted audio levels closer to that of what you would hear using OSX... I'm sure some readers here used it too. I tried re-install that driver on top of the one provided with Bootcamp 3.1, and while it worked to restore the audio to louder levels, it once again disabled the mic. So now im hoping someone can create another custom driver based on this new official driver and fix this low audio output problem that apple still won't attend to themselves...

MBP 13" with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Boot Camp 3.1:

  • Headphone jack is still red
  • Touchpad is still quirky
  • Apple Software update still Boot Camp Update

Major drama's here with Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 32 bit.

Installed Windows 7 with the new iMac 27" drivers extracted to a flash drive as directed by Apple support.

Install went fine.

Then I tried to run the 'BootCamp_3.1_32-bit.exe' in Windows 7. AFAIK it did nothing except trigged UAC to which I clicked 'Yes'.

So I thought, since it's 'Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 32 bit', perhaps I need to install Boot Camp Software 3.0 before attempting 3.1...

BSOD... And that is the end of that story...

I know this says "for Windows 7," but does anyone know if the XP audio/mic drivers for mid-2009 13" MBPs were updated in Boot Camp 3.1? Not being able to use the mic was such a pain and I don't see the need to upgrade to Windows 7 just for that.

I posted here as well that on my MB, the BC3.1 still shows up as an option, even though it's already installed. Must be a glitch.

anway i just need to go to bootcamp in my Mac, then create the new partition and so on right ? (there;s no upgrade for the bootcamp on the mac side?)

please guide me here, im quite new to window wold, and please pardon me for my broken english.

if someone can post a tutorial or step by step, that will be awesome, thank you very much.

i've been using windows 7 x64 with bootcamp on my mac mini for several months now without any problems.

not sure what this update really adds.

Same here with my original 2006 macpro. Had to install the latest ati drivers for my x1900xt but other than that it works. I did however install it on my MacBook and the trakpad is super sensitive so I'm hoping it'll fix that... I won't be updating the macpro though until someone confirms it doesn't break compatibility...

That's excellent news! Thanks for posting... I'll update my 1,1 macpro too now... :)
