Boot Camp, A few questions.

Ok so I just unpacked my new imac a few hours ago. I am now wondering a few things considering boot camp.

When leopard comes out will I have to buy windows? I know that boot camp is free, but having never used it, i do not know if boot camp = full version windows. Or if i have to download boot camp and go out and buy windows.

Also, is there still a third-party website that people know of that is still allowing boot camp downloads? I would really like to have boot camp now while i wait for my copy of leopard.

Any response is appreciated.

Oh and finally,
if i have access to a mac book pro with boot camp installed. is there a way to pull it off of the mac book and install it on my imac?

Boot Camp is an installer, nothing more. It partitions the drive and will burn a driver disk, but nothing really that couldn't be accomplished manually.

You still need a copy of Windows for the install.

Third-party loads of BC are not officially available.

Boot Camp is part of Leopard, and is still free.

It's honestly easier to reinstall Windows. I've tried most of the migration apps and they're mostly crap. Plus, they don't move the OS, just user settings and (sometimes) apps. You'd need Ghost, or something along those lines, and my experience is that didn't play too nice with BC partitions.

Leopard and Windows are both independent, separate operating systems.

Boot Camp is not Windows, it's just an installer with a GUI.

Buy a copy of Windows (minimum XPSP2 FULL, no upgrade versions), run BC Assistant, select the partition size (<32GB FAT32 or NTFS, >32GB NTFS only) insert Windows CD, follow prompts to install Windows on the new partition. Pretty straightforward, really.

Make sure you print out the BC instructions and read them BEFORE commencing the operation.
