So, in the end i pulled the trigger and bought a RocketRaid 640L, pci 4x with 4 Sata III ports, to make my 840 pro sad run correctly on my mac pro 5.1.
What I'm not understanding now is: how can i install Boot Camp on it?

I assume that being the 640L plug and play, the SSDs through it are seen as external, but i don't figure out why i don't see the SS in the Boot Camp available disks.

Any help appreciated

Can you install windows to an external drive though?

Windows 7 cannot be installed on any drive that Windows identifies as removable.

With my 640L non-raid I just used a spare sata 2 from the ODD until I had win7 installed.

I can't remember what I did now, but I know for a fact that I can boot windows 7 x64 from it.

I *think* I installed Windows straight to the SSD connected to the card, but I also might have installed it on one of the Mac Pro SATA bays and then moved the card over.

But either way, whatever I did results in AHCI & SATA III enabled and it boots windows 7.
