Boot Camp: cannot install Mac Drivers (MBP, BC 1.3, XP)

Using MacBook Pro 2.2GHz (SR), OS X 10.4.10, Boot Camp 1.3 and XPSP2.

I've finally managed to install XP on a Bootcamp partition and boot into it. Now if I run the Mac Drivers CD, the system hangs during the Intel chipset driver install -- and I wind up with corrupted pci.sys and isapnp.sys files. Tried running the drivers from the Windows harddisk (copy contents over into FAT partition from OS X), no luck.

I've successfully used http://support.microsoft.com/?id=319136 to correct this, but I would still like to install (need?) the Apple PCI drivers.

Any help would be appreciated!

(BTW, yesterday I ran into the BootCamp "cannot move files" message, so I had to reinstall OS X. Now XP is installed, and we get *this*... All in all, I can't say I'm impressed with the entire experience...)

Are you using the lateest version of Bootcamp?

Are you running a LEGAL version of XP?

are you sure its SP2? i had the same problems when I installed XP and didn't realize it was only SP1.

You buy a Mac. It is only an advantage that it can run Windows, it isn't its prime function. So you will experience the odd problem.

There is a way around the "Cannot move files" problem you encountered. You need to use a 3rd party disk degragger and it sorts out the problem. iDefrag is good.

Yes: just downloaded a new copy today (the previous one was fried when I reformatted OS X)

Morally, yes -- but technically NO: I own several full XP Pro licenses, but BC needs a XPSP2 single disk installer, which I have "borrowed from a friend".

I *have* previously used this same CD to install XP to VMware Fusion and then to add Mac drivers -- without a problem...

Yep, it's SP2. As explained above, I used the same disk with VMware Fusion, and then I *could* install the Mac drivers afterwards...

For the record: I managed to install most of the drivers manually from the Apple drivers CD:
- video (NVidiaXPMobileSetup.exe)
- bluetooth (AppleBluetoothInstaller.exe)
- keyboard (AppleKeyboardInstaller.exe) -- no kbd backlighting though...
- trackpad (AppleTrackpadInstaller.exe)
- remote/IR (AppleRemoteInstaller.exe)
- wired ethernet (MarvellXPInstaller.exe)
- wlan (AtherosXPInstaller.exe)
- audio (RealTekSetup.exe)

It appears that the iSight camera is supported directly from XP, as an USB video device (I did at some point run the AppleiSightInstaller.exe, even though that did not seem to work at the time). iSight itself is still shown as an unknown device in Device mgr.

All in all, I have all I need up and running. Maybe I'll try the chipset driver again manually...
