So, got my MBP today. A day earlier than expected!!! (Ordered it on Friday, it shipped Saturday and got here at 10 am today...even with a small credit card snafu and all the way from China, no less). :D :D :D :D

Anyway, I've got Boot Camp up and running with Windoze XP. Everything has gone swell up till the point of installing the windows drivers. When I put in the cd with the drivers it does the autorun thing and right away it says, "this package requires a newer version of the Windows Installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?" If I say no, it cancels the installation process, of course. If I say yes, it comes back with another dialog box saying, "The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing."

Any suggestions? I appreciate the help.

Did you use XP SP2?

I thought it was SP2, but I just went booted it up in VirtualPC on my mac mini and I only see MS Windows XP in system properties. Hmmmmm...I thought I needed SP2 for VPC as well. I'll see if I can download it.

I thought of looking at that, but I was fairly sure that it was SP2. Thanks for setting me straight!

I had the same problem yesterday, and it was caused by using a Windows disc without SP2. I tried a SP2 version today, and it worked perfectly.

I'd like to try it with SP2, but I don't think that my copy of XP is on the up and up. A guy I know sold me his old PC with XP on it and gave me an install disc on a burned CD...someone had built the computer for him, so it's quite possible that it's not so legal. I'm not sure how to check it out since I can't connect to the internet through XP running in Boot Camp.

I may have SP2 on the old PC, but I'd rather not deal with that hunk o' crap and I wouldn't know how to get that onto a cd or if it's even possible...???

Any suggestions?
