Since I have a copy of Windows 8.1 lying around (actually Microsoft posted a download and serial of the preview on their website, not about to pay for Windows LOL) and an external HD, I wanted to install Windows on the drive just to play around.

I read that it isn't possible to install Windows on an external drive. I downloaded the Parallels trial but I want to allot all of my RAM to Windows for games and such while I'm using it.

Since you can install OS X on an external drive, could I install OS X on the external then run Boot Camp on there and install Windows that way? Would that work?

In theory you could do that, I don't see no reason why it wouldn't work.
